Samuel Leon Smith was born March 26, 1935 in Kennard, Indiana to Harvey and Mary (Dalton) Smith. He grew up in Kennard, Indiana. Sam enlisted in the United States Army where he served as a gunner in the Korean War. He was married to Linda Anschutz on November 9th, 1956, she preceded him in death in 2005.
