Obituary for John J. Corley

John J. Corley, age 70 of Shullsburg, WI passed away Thursday, June 20, 2019 at his home in Shullsburg. He was born December 19, 1948 in Shullsburg the son of Elmer and Betty (Negus) Corley. John grew up in Shullsburg and graduated from Shullsburg High School in 1967. Following high school John joined the Army National Guard and the United States Navy Reserves. He was united in marriage to Patricia A. Montgomery on July 20, 1990 in Galena, IL. John spent most of his working career at John Deere Dubuque Works as an accounts payable clerk and retired after 39 years.

John is survived by his wife Patty at home; his children: Tammie (Matt) Fick of Gratiot, WI, Heidi (Jodi Boysen) Corley of Rochester, MN, Amy (Russ) Farrey and Tara (Gary) Peters both of Galena, and Lisa (Travis Henricks) Dole and Nichole (Ryan) Thompson both of Shullsburg; his grandchildren: Aiden, Brady, Zoey, Isabella, Leah, Lily, Mya, Jaydyn, and Logan; four brothers: Robert (Doreen) Corley and Thomas (Cindy) Corley both of Darlington, WI, Jim Corley of Shullsburg, and Joe (Carmen) Corley of Darlington; three sisters: Joan (Jerry) Busch of Blanchardville, WI, Mary (Jack) Mergan of Muscatine, IA and Carol (Rich) Farrey of Long Grove, IA; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sons: Todd Corley in 1995 and Michael Corley in 2014.

John was a member of the Shullsburg EMS, Shullsburg American Legion Post #105, and was very active and a proud member of Beowulf MC. John enjoyed spending his free time riding his beloved Harley Davidson motorcycle. He and Patty enjoyed taking trips all over the tri-states enjoying the open road and scenery. When he wasn’t riding, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren creating memories they will all remember forever. John will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church (344 N. Judgement St., Shullsburg) with Rev. Sudhakar Devarapu officiating. Burial will be in St. Matthew’s Cemetery where military graveside rites will be accorded by McCann-Richards American Legion Post #105 of Shullsburg and Shullsburg VFW Post #10533. A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2019 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church and on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at the church. The Erickson Funeral Home in Shullsburg is serving the family. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com.
