Obituary for Jill C. Wirtz

Jill Christine Wirtz, age 59 of Baraboo, WI formerly of Argyle, WI passed away surrounded by her family at the UW-Hospital in Madison, WI on January 12, 2020, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on June 11, 1960, in Monroe, WI, the daughter of Fred (Gottfried II) and Sharon (Bredeson) Wirtz. Jill graduated from Argyle High School, and eventually started her dream job of being a professional table games dealer, first in Las Vegas and then at Ho Chunk Casino in the Wisconsin Dells for 20+ years. Jill shared many special moments with her daughters and wanted nothing more for them than to have a wonderful life. She loved life, playing with her granddaughters, going on adventures with her family, “dancing with herself”, playing cards, and trying to beat everyone at Yahtzee. She had a fantastic sense of humor and lived her life full of laughter. And although some say you can’t cheer for more than one team, Jill did so for the Packers and the Cowboys with equal enthusiasm, even watching the Packers win on her last night.
Jill is survived by her father, Fred Wirtz (Nancy Simonette), daughters Amber Wirtz (Sara Britt) and Rikki (Cole) Dietz, and three beautiful granddaughters, who gave her great joy and love, Kali, Serenity and Kennedy, her siblings, Jeannie Wirtz (Edgar Reyes), Julie Wirtz (Dave Reck), Todd (Kathy) Wirtz and Holly Erickson, and was the favorite aunt to her many nieces and nephews. Jill was preceded in death by her mother, Sharon Wirtz, and her grandparents Tony and Marie Bredeson, Gottfried Wirtz Senior, and Hulda and Grant Disrud.
Jill was a member of the Adams Lutheran Church. Her faith sustained her during her illness, and we are comforted that she is finally resting in peace and without pain, knowing we will all join her one day. Jill had the biggest heart, which she shared openly, and she was an inspiration to all who were privileged to know her.
The family would like to thank her friends for supporting her through her journey, the UW Oncology doctors, nurses and staff who were with her fighting her illness, and the UW Hospital ER Team who showed so much compassion to her during her final moments. Jill’s final gift was the gift of sight through organ donation. We are sure that God has given her sight back to her so she can watch over us until we meet again. Jill will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held Friday, January 17, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Adams Lutheran Church (N7148 County Rd A, Argyle, WI) with Rev. Shelley Nelson officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in rural Argyle at a later date. A visitation will be held Thursday, January 16, 2020, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the church and on Friday, January 17, 2020, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 at the church. The Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle is serving the family. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at ericksonfuneralhome.com
