Everett Thoreson

Everett A. Thoreson, age 91 of rural South Wayne, WI passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at SSM Health in Monroe, WI. He was born November 8, 1931, at home to Orville and Odelia Thoreson. He attended Jennings School in rural South Wayne. Everett was the oldest of three boys, so he stayed home to farm during WWII and became a self-educated man. He enlisted in the United States Army in January of 1955 where he was stationed in Texas and New York until being honorably discharged in 1957. He farmed for many years on the Larson - Thoreson Farm in rural South Wayne. He cherished the time he spent farming with his two brothers Dean and Gary throughout the years selling breeding stock hogs, milking dairy cows, and planting corn and beans. Everett was united in marriage to Gail Ripp on August 25, 1973. Everett is survived by his wife Gail at home; his children: Jim (Becky Mitchell) Thoreson of Madison, WI, Amy (Nathan) Pierce of Cumberland, WI, and Sara Thoreson of San Diego, CA; his granddaughter who he absolutely adored: Ella Thoreson; his sisters-in-law: Elaine Saber of Brookfield, WI, Sister Virginia Ripp of Sinsinawa, WI, Nancy Scripko of Racine, WI, Margaret Ripp of Greenfield, WI, Carol Ripp of Cross Plains, WI and Rose Thoreson of Madison, WI; and many special nieces and nephews - especially Gary and Chloe's surviving family: Krista (Scott), Kendra, Connor, Bryan (Katie), Liam, Evey, and Keira. He was preceded in death by his parents, aunt: Nellie Larson; two brothers: Dean and Gary; sister-in-law: Chloe Thoreson; and brothers-in-law: Richard Ripp, Daniel Ripp, Charles Saber, George Scripko, and Myron Kilmer. Everett was a lifelong member of Wiota Lutheran Church where he served as co-chair of finance collection for the building of the new Wiota Lutheran Church. Everett was a Woodford State Bank director for 33 years. He was a talented woodworker and traveled widely with his wife and family. He enjoyed skiing, sailing, and photography. He was a social guy who was very easy going and optimistic. He was incredibly proud of his Norwegian Heritage and loved to tell stories. He cherished the time he spent with his family creating memories they will cherish forever. A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Wiota Lutheran Church with Vicar Myron Crawford officiating. Burial will be in East Wiota Cemetery. A visitation will be held Saturday February 4, 2023 from 9:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at Wiota Lutheran Church. The Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington is serving the family.
