Eugene Peterson

Eugene A. "Gene" Peterson, age 80, of rural Argyle, WI, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 23, 2024, at his home. He was born October 30, 1943, at St. Clair Hospital in Monroe, WI, to Alvin and Mabel (Thoreson) Peterson. Gene lived in Argyle his entire life and graduated from Argyle High School. He was united in marriage to Leore Payne on November 15, 1968, at East Wiota Lutheran Church. Gene dedicated his working years farming as well as his employment at Advance Transformer until his retirement. Gene is survived by his children: Lori (Roger) Vogel of Monroe, WI, Lisa (Jeff) Johnson of Argyle, and Ellen Phillips of Argyle; his grandchildren: Chelsea (Olivia) Roe, Bryan (Liz) Johnson, Jared (Jackie) Johnson, and Kyla Phillips; his great-grandchildren: Morgan and Josie Johnson, Sophia, Landry, and Theodore Johnson; one brother: Sherman (Lorene) Peterson. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Leore; two sisters: Ruth Ann Peterson and Leona Reed; and one nephew: Robert Reed. Gene was a member of Cornerstone Church, proudly served in the Army National Guard, and was a member of the Monroe American Legion. He was also very proud of his Norwegian heritage. In his free time, he enjoyed playing cards with family, driving back roads, and going on family vacations. Gene had a soft spot in his heart for cats. He also always cheered on the Wisconsin Badgers, Green Bay Packers, and Milwaukee Brewers. Gene was always very proud of his family, especially his children and grandchildren, and made sure they always knew how proud he was of them. A funeral service will be held Monday, September 30, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Cornerstone Church (1540 Old Highway 81, Argyle WI) with Rev. Dave Olson officiating. Burial will be in East Wiota Cemetery where military graveside rites will be accorded by Monroe American Legion. A visitation will be held Monday, September 30, 2024 from 9:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at Cornerstone Church in Argyle. The Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle is serving the family.
