Obituary
David James Lacke, age 61 of Shullsburg, WI passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born December 16, 1964 in Hazel Green, WI to Jim and Barb (Bastian) Lacke. David graduated from Shullsburg High School in 1983 and later attended Madison Area Technical college where he earned a degree in marketing. In 1992, he married Karen (Edge) Lacke and together they built a family.
David is survived by his wife, Karen (Edge) Lacke; Three daughters: Jennifer (Bale) Winkler, Abby (Eli Humphrey) Lacke, and Sarah (Josh) Lund, 4 grandchildren; Lily & Emma Winkler and Charlee & Tate Lund; 2 brothers, Tim (Denise) Lacke, & Mick (Chris) Lacke; 2 sisters; Karen (Jack) Carrig, & Kathy Steffes; as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Jim & Barb Lacke; his parents-in-law Bill & Priscilla Edge; and his brother-in-law Scott Steffes.
He spent time working at Abbott Laboratories and later with American Family Insurance. In 2012 he took a leap of faith and purchased Leadmine Tavern. There he found his passion. David refused to leave anyone without putting a smile on their face, whether it was his family, a gas station clerk, or customers at the Tavern. He made the place an extension of himself – his wit, humor, and kindness making people feel welcome and turning customers into friends and family.
Though David was dedicated to his work, his greatest love was his family. He was the ultimate “girl-dad” and took great pride in the title. He was their biggest source of support and protection and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for his girls. This love was not reserved just for his daughters but was extended to and felt by his grandchildren, brothers and sisters, and nieces and nephews. His most cherished memories were those spent with his family.
A private burial will be held for the immediate family. A celebration of life will take place on Friday, October 2nd, 2026 at Bella Blue Bottoms in Benton, WI from 3:00PM to 8:00PM.
The family of David Lacke wants to extend a special thank you to the UW-Madison Carbone Cancer Clinic.
