David Skattum

David G. Skattum, age 79, of Madison, Wisconsin, passed away at his home on July 31, 2026. He was born on September 25, 1946, in Dodgeville, Wisconsin the son of Virgil and Hannah (Glatz) Skattum. David grew up in Argyle, WI and graduated from Argyle High School, Class of 1964. He attended the University of Wisconsin Platteville before being drafted into the United States Army, where he honorably served for two years.

Following his military service, David returned home and worked briefly for Lafayette County, then secured a long-standing career with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development in Madison until his retirement. Known for his dedication and work ethic, he was a respected member of his professional community.

David never married but was beloved by his many nieces and nephews. He was the cherished son of Virgil Lorance Skattum and Hannah Marie (Glatz) Skattum. He is survived by his brother, Dick (Shelby) Skattum of Argyle, one brother-in-law, Gregory Stamm of Argyle, many nieces and nephews and good friends: Jose Rocha and Brian Robertson. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ruth Stamm.

A man of quiet passions, David enjoyed genealogy and studying his family history, delighting in reading books of all kinds, treasured time spent with family, and dining out and attending the farmers market with close friends.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Yellowstone Lutheran Church, with Rev. Daniel Bohlman presiding. A visitation will be held Monday August 10, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Burial will take place at Apple Grove Lutheran Church Cemetery following the service.

David’s life was a testament to steadfastness, kindness, and devotion to family and community. He will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
