John Michael "Smokey" Flannery, age 40 of rural Darlington, WI passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington. He was born February 1, 1980 at St. Clare Hospital in Monroe, WI the son of Michael and Candice (Bocklund) Flannery. John grew up in Blanchardville, WI where he graduated from Pecatonica Area High School. He married the love of his life, Shannon McGowan on June 14, 2003 in Ridgeway, WI.John is survived by his wife Shannon at home; two daughters: Shelby Flannery and Kadance Flannery both of Darlington; his parents: Michael and Candice Flannery of Blanchardville, WI; parents-in-law: Jeff and Liz McGowan of Blanchardville, and Colleen Hughes of Blanchardville; Grandmother-in-law: Rose Ward of Marshall, WI and Eloise McGowan of Blanchardville; one brother: Matt (Lisa) Flannery of Blanchardville; three sisters: Angela (Steve) Flannery of Waldwick, WI, Melissa (Craig) Doescher of Argyle, WI, and Dana (Jonny) Flannery of Blanchardville ; two brothers-in-law: Chad (Michele) McGowan of Blanchardville and Jared McGowan of Blanchardville; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: John Jr. and Fola Flannery; his maternal grandparents: Arnold and Delores Bocklund; one uncle: Greg Flannery; an aunt / God mother: Pam Bocklund; Uncle/ God Father: Carl Mize; a niece: Trinity Flannery; one cousin; Erica Flannery; grandparents-in-law: Robert McGowan, and Daniel and Chris Scholl; and one very close friend: Darren Meade.John was a farmer his entire life, it was truly his life's passion working with Dave and Jane Olson on the Olson Acres since 1995. He loved working on tractors and attending tractor pulls with his close friend Steve Meade. John will be remembered by his family and friends for going above and beyond for his family and friends whenever they needed help. He cherished his family and all of their "drama" and the memories they created together. He will truly be missed by his family and friends.A private family funeral service will be held Monday, January 18, 2021 at Erickson Funeral Home (801 Milwaukee St., Argyle) with Rev. Daniel L. Bohlman of Argyle/Apple Grove/Yellowstone Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. A public visitation will be held Sunday, January 17, 2021 from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com.In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in John's name.Due to Wisconsin state mandate, masks must be worn throughout your visit inside the funeral home and that proper social distancing guidelines are practiced at all times.
