Obituary

Wesley L. "Wes" Seffrood, age 91 of rural Darlington, WI passed away Friday, April 30, 2021 at Lafayette Manor in Darlington. He was born October 19, 1929 in Monroe, WI the son of Lester and Elsie (Meier) Seffrood. Wes attended rural grade school at the Porter School and later graduated from South Wayne High School in 1947. He decided to further his education by attending the University of Wisconsin Short Course in Madison, WI for 2 years. Wes entered the United States Army for 2 years and was later honorably discharged. Upon his return from the Army, he worked for ASCS and Wiota and Gratiot Lumber Co where he did carpentry work. Wes bought a farm in 1957 and he and his brother Harold farmed together until 1975. He proudly built all of the buildings on the farm except for the heifer shed (which was remodeled) and the granary (which is planned to be torn down). He was so proud to have built the buildings he worked in. Wes spent much time and effort in planning and carrying out soil conservation practices to get the farm to its present level of production. Wes held many office titles: he was elected to ASCS County Committee for Wiota Township, the Lafayette County Electric Coop Board; was director of Lafayette County for Tri State Breeders/Accelerated Genetics Association; served on AMPI committees, belonged to Pure Milk Products Coop, and served on the Farm Bureau Board - just to name a few. Wes was very proud of his agriculture background and was always eager and willing to share his knowledge with the younger generations. He held many FFA cow judging practices at the farm and had several 4-H dairy clinics. He proudly served as 4-H project leader for dairy and tractor maintenance, and was the softball manager for several years. Wes was a member of Wiota Lutheran Church where he was a past member of the church council. He also proudly dedicated his time to teaching Sunday school for many years. Wesley married the love of his life, Marian Abraham on June 29, 1975. Together they have lived a very fulfilling and happy life. He is further survived by his step-children: Allen (Carolyn) Abraham of Darlington, Audrey (Duane) Riemer of Brodhead, WI, Annette (Mark) Spencer of Orfordville, WI, and Anita (Rick) Skalitzky of Brodhead; his step-grandchildren: Aaron (Katie) Abraham, Adam (Sierra) Abraham, Alex (Athena) Abraham, Andrew Abraham, Arick Abraham, Amelia (Travis) Schroeder, Ben Schlappi, Cole (Sarah) Isenberger, Chase Isenberger, Olivia Isenberger, Amanda Lincicum, and Whitney Disch; 7 step-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Lawrence (Phyllis) Seffrood of Freeport, IL and Donald Seffrood of South Wayne; two sisters-in-law: Eunice Seffrood of Milbank, SD and sister-in-law : Fayella Jackson of Menomonie, WI; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one step-son: Ardell Abraham; three brothers: Dale Seffrood, Willard Seffrood, and Harold Seffrood; two sisters: Helen (Donald) Nenneman and Gladys Seffrood in infancy; and two sisters-in-law: Darlene Seffrood and Ann Seffrood. A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 6, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Wiota Lutheran Church (6682 Hwy 78, South Wayne) with Rev. Kate Kieckhafer of Grace Lutheran Church in Darlington officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery in Darlington where military graveside rites will be accorded by Bate-O'Brien-Howe-Wiegel-Roelli American Legion Post #214 of Darlington. A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 5, 2021 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Wiota Lutheran Church. The Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington is serving the family. I have so many memories of Wes from the time I was a young boy riding on calls with my Dad, later stopping with my daughter to visit after a hunt.
