Mary Stutz

Mary Lou Stutz, age 65 of rural Darlington, WI passed away unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, May 27, 2021. She was born in Darlington on February 6, 1956 the daughter of Donald Moon and Serena (Bennett) Moon. Mary grew up in the Lancaster, WI area. She was united in marriage to her best friend, Joel D. Stutz on August 23, 1975 at United Methodist Church in Milton, WI. In 1980, Mary and Joel moved to Darlington and Shullsburg, WI area. She worked as a CMA at Family Health of Lafayette County in Darlington for 20 years and also as respite care worker. Mary retired five years ago and has thoroughly enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren since.Mary is survived by her husband Joel at home; two daughters: Emily Jo (Tom) Martin of Shullsburg and Jennifer Lee (Jayme) Davis of rural Darlington; her grandchildren that she absolutely adored: Elizabeth (Ralph) Brown, William (Taylor Davis) Martin, Preston Martin, Aloysius Martin, Cyril Martin, Garrett (Abby Timm) Davis, Wyatt Davis, Abby Davis, and Grady Davis; one brother: Fred (Judy) Moon of Rockford, IL; two sisters: Jeannett (Roger) Suer of Janesville, WI and Mary Regina (James) Freeman of Northport, AL; one sister-in-law: Sandy Moon of Rockford, IL; her special friends: Julie Spillane of Cuba City, WI, Mary Wedige of rural Shullsburg, and Rosie's children: Larry, Lucinda, and Pam; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother: Francis Moon; one sister: Carol Moon; and a special friend: Rosie Green.Mary was a social butterfly and always knew exactly what to say to make someone's day better. She was a girl scout leader for many years in Shullsburg and worked serving lunch at the Holy Rosary Elementary School. Mary loved to spend her Friday nights in Shullsburg at the ball diamond playing women's slow pitch, a league she was in charge of for many years. She was known for her artistic abilities, especially known for her afghans, Christmas decorations, and many other things. Her family and friends will always remember her cooking abilities and her dedication to her beloved chickens.Mary absolutely adored her family. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she always made sure they knew how proud she was of them. The time she spent with her family will be cherished forever.A memorial service will be held Friday, June 4, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (508 Main St. Darlington) with Rev. Stanton Bockwoldt of Centenary United Methodist Church officiating. A visitation will be held Friday, June 4, 2021 from 10:00 A.M. until 12:45 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington.
