Obituary
Donald J. "Butch" McGuire age 94 of Darlington, WI passed away Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Lafayette Manor in Darlington. Butch was the son of Rose (Cavanaugh) McGuire and James McGuire. He was the youngest in a family that included Mercedes, Lloyd, Paul, Cecil, Bernadine, Thomas, Rose Marie, and Francis. Butch was born on July 26, 1926 on "Wildcat Hollow" and moved to Darlington at an early age. He attended Holy Rosary School and Darlington High School where he graduated in 1945. Butch was married to Ruth Hale of Gratiot, WI at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Gratiot on September 23, 1950. He lived his entire life in Darlington and valued the time he spent as Alderman of the First Ward in the City of Darlington. Butch loved the outdoors. He spent 30+ years teaching Wisconsin Hunter Safety to individuals throughout the area. He worked in the former Wanderscheid Market and watched a 40-year progression of Downtown Darlington. He also worked 10 years at Darlington High School. Butch leaves behind to love and remember him, his children: Patrick (Sara) McGuire of Gentry, AK, Dennis McGuire of Darlington, and Teresa (Tim) Shertz of New Holland, PA; nine grandchildren: Melanie (Dan) Beard, Mike Crapp, Courtney (Brett) Broge, Travis (Jen Peters) McGuire, Krista (Chris Simon) McGuire, Dylan McGuire, Matt (Heather Reichling) McGuire, Nicole McGuire, and Amanda (Gary) Beckett; nine great-grandchildren: Christina Beard, Shyla Crapp, Ayden Broge, Taya McGuire, Rielly McGuire, Ryker McGuire, April Beckett, Emmett Beckett, and Eli Beckett. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ruth in 2020; one son: Tim McGuire; one daughter-in-law: Karen McGuire. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Holy Rosary Catholic Church (104 E. Harriet St., Darlington) with Rev. Joji Reddy officiating. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM at the church on Wednesday. The Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington is serving the family. My most sincere sympathy to all the family. Butch was a good friend to many. He loved his family and his community. We would often meet while walking the river trail, stop a bit and have a little visit.
