Steven Olson

Steven L. Olson of Darlington, WI passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at his home in Darlington. He was born January 12, 1950 in Darlington the son of Amos and Mavis Olson. Steve went to Darlington High School. He was united in marriage to Mary Lynn Fitzsimons on August 19, 1972 in Darlington. Steve grew up and lived in Lafayette County, WI his whole life. He worked at FS in Darlington and Monroe Truck in Monroe, WI until retiring. Steve is survived by his wife, Lynn at home; three children: Jane Schemelia of Darlington, Eric (Tricia) Olson of Richland Center, WI, and Sara (Brian) Olson of Cobb, WI; 3 grandchildren: Caitlin Olson of La Crosse, WI, Cassidy Olson of Richland Center, and Lauren Schemelia of Darlington; one brother: Tom (Kay) Olson of Darlington. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law: Mike (Margie) Fitzsimons of Janesville, WI, Beth (Tom) Wilhelmson of Belvidere, IL, Susie (Bob) Stietz of Gratiot, Judy Fitzsimons of Darlington, Deb McQuinn of Monroe, David (Laura) Fitzsimons of Janesville, WI, Jim (Laurie) Fitzsimons of Janesville, Jack (Terri) Fitzsimons of Darlington, Lori Fitzsimons of Mazomanie, WI, Dan (Stella) Fitzsimons of Valencia, CA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Amos and Mavis Olson; mother and father-in-law: John and Audrey Fitzsimons; a nephew: Ricky Stietz; and his brothers-in-law: Jeff Fitzsimons, Bill Fitzsimons, and Steve McQuinn. Steve had a huge heart and loved each and everyone of his family members and friends. They all had a special place in his heart. Steve loved to play cards with family and friends. He enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune, Westerns, and was an avid sports fan. He also enjoyed everything outdoors. He took annual trips to Canada and Hayward with his family and friends. He loved to hunt, sit on the porch, watch the birds, and spend time with family, friends, and our dog, Cooper. He also loved to plant a garden. He was proud of the fresh veggies he grew. Steve will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends. A Celebration of Steve's Life will be held Saturday, September 18, 2021 from 11:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. at the Darlington American Legion (1400 Keep St., Darlington).
