Janice Ronnerud

Janice A. Ronnerud, 84, formerly of Darlington, WI passed away peacefully on June 24, 2022, at Edenbrook of Platteville in Platteville, WI. She was born June 11, 1938, in Darlington, WI, to Harry and Mildred (Godfrey) Sleep. She lived in Darlington nearly her entire life, graduating from Darlington High School in 1957. She was united in marriage to James A. Ronnerud on August 24, 1961 in the Swiss Church in Darlington, WI.Janice received her education degree from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and taught English and Spanish for a few years in the Fennimore and Argyle schools. She left teaching to work with her parents and brother at Sleep's Drug Store where she cheerfully served customers for many years. She loved to read, both fiction and non-fiction, and always had a book nearby. She had a great interest in genealogy and history and was very active in the Lafayette County Historical Society and Lafayette County Genealogy Society for many years. She and her husband Jim spent many hours researching and documenting local cemeteries. She enjoyed helping others discover and document their family trees.She cherished the time spent with family and will be greatly missed.Janice is survived by her husband James, currently residing in Platteville, WI; a nephew, David (Debra) Sleep of Lexington, IL and children (Megan (Aaron) Kupferschmid and Hannah Sleep); two brothers-in-law, Philip (Margaret) Ronnerud of Duncan, AZ, and children (Evan Ronnerud and Miranda (Billy) Johnson) and John (Karen) Ronnerud of Casa Grande, AZ, and children (Anna (Sam) Glickman and John Ronnerud); a grandniece, grandnephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charles Sleep; and brother-in-law, Peter "David" Ronnerud.The family would like to thank the staff of Edenbrook of Platteville and St. Croix Hospice for their dedicated and compassionate care for the last few years of Janice's life.A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 30, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church (546 Park Place, Darlington) with Rev. InSun Lee officiating. A visitation will be held at the church beginning at 1 P.M. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery in Darlington. Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington is serving the family.
