Elizabeth E. "Liz" "Muffy" Barth, age 91 of Darlington, WI, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2022 at Lafayette County Manor surrounded by her family. Liz was born to Leo and Dora (Schlichting) Talbert on December 14, 1930 in Freeport, IL. She grew up in Apple River, IL, graduated from Warren High School, and worked at Tyson's Drug Store in Apple River during her early years. On January 8, 1955 Liz married the love of her life, Richard "Richie" Barth. They lived on a farm in Darlington where they created a loving, lively home for their ten close-knit children and a welcoming second home to many lucky grandchildren and friends who became like family. Prior to Richie's passing in 1987, the couple shared a love of travel and adventure. They counted Switzerland and Florida as favorite vacation spots and made lifelong friends wherever they went. Liz's passion for travel continued throughout her life. She enjoyed journeys - near and far - with her frequent traveling companions - Rachel and Gib Suthers, Sara and Ed Flanagan, Donna Douglas, and Jim Curran.When Liz wasn't travelling, she made her own excitement closer to home. She was a member of the Irishmen's Club and Red Hat Society, loved to gift special finds to those closest to her, and had a soft spot for gin and tonics, sparkle, and the perfect shade of rose lipstick. Her home was a hub of activity, and she was often at the center. Liz was a constant, crucial presence in her children's lives - offering a special blend of support and consideration that was part mother, part friend. She enthusiastically cared for her grandchildren with open arms that soothed tears, stories that fueled laughter, and lots of macaroni, fancy football cakes, safety check-ins, and memories filled with comfort and joy.Liz is survived by her daughters: Jan (Dick) Hendrickson of Shullsburg, WI; Jill (Duane) Gindt of Boyd, WI, Jeri (Dan) Fabian of Stillwater, MN, Jaci (Greg) Johnson of Darlington, Jodi (Steve) Welsh of Mineral Point, WI, Juli (Tony) Muhlstein of Darlington, Joni (Jack) Flesher of Brodhead, WI, Judi (Steve) Carey of Darlington, and Jennifer (Mark Johnson) Brandt of Wiota, WI; her grandchildren: Nathan, Jamie, Jena, Jared, Jordan, Ryan, Lauren, Maverick, Ben, Logan, Chloe, Lexi, Abby, Alysa, Levi, Kade, and Sydney; and her great-grandchildren: Collins and Vilah. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son Jon; her sister Mary; and two grandchildren, Alex and Alexandra Welsh.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at 11 AM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church (104 E. Harriet St, Darlington) with Fr. Luke Syse officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery in Darlington. A visitation will be held on Monday, August 1, 2022 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with a rosary being prayed at 3:30 PM and on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM.
