Obituary
Gerald C. "Quirkie" Quirk, age 78 of Darlington, WI passed away Monday, November 14, 2022 at UW-Hospital in Madison, WI. He was born September 25, 1944 the son of Robert and Lillian (Prohaska) Quirk at his family farm. Jerry grew up in Mineral Point, WI and graduated from Mineral Point High School in 1963. Following high school, Jerry proudly served the United States Army with the 3rd Battalion 59th Artillery until he was honorably discharged in May of 1968. After returning home, Jerry worked as a Master Meat Cutter having been employed at Cenite's Meat Market, Avon Locker, and Owned a Meat Market in Mineral Point. Later, Jerry worked at Dick's Supermarket in Darlington until retiring in 2009. Following his retirement, Quirkie worked part time at Avon Locker Plant. Jerry married the love of his life, Barb Schilling on May 16, 1970, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington. They have one thoughtful and kind daughter: Jenny (Randy) Quirk. Although Jerry and Barb did not have any grandchildren, all of his nieces and nephews truly loved "Quirkie". He was always a fun person, with a joke or two. Jerry was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the 3rd Degree of Knights of Columbus, and Bates-O'Brien-Howe-Wiegel-Roelli American Legion Post #214 of Darlington. In Jerry's earlier days he enjoyed going camping, telling "Jerry Jokes," laughing, making Mulligan Stew at Belanger's Bottom, having beverages at Kenny's Tap, and always looked forward to his 4:00 P.M. happy hour before supper. He enjoyed spending time on the UTV, hunting and carving the "big catch" so he could make his jerky and bologna. Jerry could fix just about anything - especially lawn mowers. He also had a talent for woodworking and became quite good at it over the years. He was a big sports fan in general, especially the Green Bay Packers. Jerry was a kind, happy, and gracious soul who was always trying to make people find the good in situations. He loved his wife with his entire heart and made sure she was treated like a queen at all times. His family meant the world to him and he always made sure they knew how proud he was of them. He made everyone feel important and was so kind to everyone, especially Barb's family. Jerry is survived by his wife Barb at home; his daughter: Jenny (Randy) Quirk of Darlington; one brother: James "Jimmy" (Betty) Quirk of Sebring, FL; one sister: Shirley Paige of Stoughton, WI; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Robert (Melva) Quirk; and two sisters: Lillian Stabell and Joyce Quirk. A memorial service will be held Friday, November 18, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church (104 E. Harriet St., Darlington) with Rev. Luke Syse officiating. Military rites will be accorded by Bates-O'Brien-Howe-Wiegel-Roelli American Legion Post #214 outside of the church following the service. A visitation will be held Thursday, November 17, 2022 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (508 Main St., Darlington) and on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Years ago we bought an ATV and trailer from Jerry, the ATV came with one key and everytime we ran into him he said he had the other key but not on him. We never did get the key but will smile remembering him. He was so happy knowing we still have the ATV and is still running great. Dave & Deanna Wright Rich Zeal
