Obituary
Robert E. "Bob" Monson age 91 of Darlington WI passed away Monday, December 26, 2022, at the Lafayette Manor Nursing Home in Darlington, WI. Bob was born January 25, 1931, in Darlington, the son of Oley and Marion (Whittaker) Monson. He grew up in Darlington and graduated from Darlington High School in 1949. Following his graduation, he enrolled at dairy school in Madison, WI. On October 2, 1954, Bob was united into marriage to Marianne Roosli at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Gratiot, WI. Starting in 1961, Bob and Marianne worked together and managed the Lafayette County Co-op Creamery until their retirement in 1995. Bob was an active member in the Darlington community. He served the City of Darlington not only as a businessman but also as a fireman for 38 years and as it's Chief for 8 years. He was a charter member of the Darlington Lions Club, a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and it's Knights of Columbus, served on the Johnson Public Library board and served three terms on the Darlington City Council. Outside of Darlington, Bob served as a board member to the Hodan Center in Mineral Point, WI. He and Marianne spent many Saturday afternoons volunteering at the Mineral Point Farmer's Market selling Papa Pat's products to help support the Hodan center. Bob cherished the time he spent helping serve his community in any way he could. When Bob wasn't serving his community, you could find him at the Darlington Mini-Mart having a cup of coffee with friends or out at his shop on CTH K tinkering around. Bob is survived by several nieces and nephews and his beloved community. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marianne. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, December 29, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church (104 E. Harriet St., Darlington) with Fr. Luke Syse officiating. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery. A visitation will be held Thursday, December 29, 2022, from 9:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. The Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington is serving the family. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Bob's name.

Our hearts go out to Bob’s family and friends! He was a dear man with a spunky side to him & a quick wit to make you laugh! He was my Dad’s neighbor and friend at the Manor for over 3 years now. My fondest memory was of he & Marianne still holding hands as they sat together in the Manor halls. A true love!❤️ He will be missed by many!

Bob and Marianne finally together again. I remember as a little kid going to the Creamery with my mom to get butter. Both of them worked hard and cared so much about Darlington. And of course the many fireman's picnics where Bob was a fixture and always a smile on his face. God speed, Bob.
