Obituary

Jean Marie Xander, age 88, of Darlington, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at the Lafayette County Manor. She was born in Shullsburg on March 14, 1934 to Homer & Evangeline (Morrissey) Xander. Jean attended St Matthews Elementary School, Shullsburg before transferring to St. Francis School for the Deaf in Milwaukee, WI. Jean spent her life living with her parents and enjoying traveling the United States and Canada in their RV as well as spending the winters in Florida and Arizona. She also enjoyed fishing with her father, time on their house boat on the Mississippi River and Sunday rides around the countryside. Jean was an avid animal lover; especially her beloved dogs. She and her mother relocated to Darlington in 1985 to be closer to her family. She was the loving daughter, sister and aunt who willingly took care the people she loved. She especially enjoyed being with her sister Dolores's family. She had a remarkable memory for dates, places and people she had encountered throughout her life. She was a lifelong member of St. Mathew's Catholic Church in Shullsburg. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her brother-in-law Howard Jacobson, and nephew Timothy Jacobson. She is survived by her sister Dolores (Xander) Jacobson and family; Peter (Heidi) Jacobson of Ocala FL, Susan Jacobson of Darlington, Bruce (Lisa) Jacobson of Lodi WI, Sally (Eric) Baehler of Darlington WI and Larry (Bobbi) Jacobson of Lodi WI. She is further survived by her great nieces/nephews Selena Kaufman, Dr. Averi (Rasmaus) Nielsen, Morgan (Jeff) Sauder ATTN, Paige (Michael) Janke, Brent Baxter, Dr. Erica (Nathan) Nehotte, Dr. Xander (Carina) Jacobson, Zachary (Kelly) Jacobson, Austin (Olivia) Jacobson, Kaitlin (Matthew) Gaske, Hayley (Nick) Jacobson and Connor Jacobson. Great, great nieces/nephews Peter, Vagn, Chiara, Viggo, and Wyatt. A prayer service will be held Monday, January 16, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (235 N. Judgement St., Shullsburg) with Fr. Peter Lee of St. Matthew's Catholic Church officiating. A visitation will be held Monday, January 16, 2023 from 10:00 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. with a rosary being prayed at 10:30 A.M. at Erickson Funeral Home in Shullsburg. A private family burial will be held in St. Matthew's Cemetery in Shullsburg. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com. During her time at Lafayette County Manor, Jean enjoyed the activities, events and staff that she interacted with. The family would to thank everyone for their kindness and compassionate care.
