Obituary

On Feb. 16, 2023, Mary Elizabeth Micka got her wings and went to walk with the angels. She was 88 years old. Mary was born on Jan. 17, 1935 to Joseph and Rose Eiche of West Allis, Wis. After she graduated from Pius XI Catholic High School, she went on to work for the Milwaukee Sentinel and later George DeGrace and Associates, a Milwaukee-based public relations firm. During her time with the firm, Mary contributed to the annual Milwaukee Holiday Parade, a memory she cherished. In 1968, Mary was united in marriage to Dr. Joseph Micka of Darlington, Wis. where they established their home. She devoted her life to her two children and took pride in helping her husband maintain his dental practice. In 1994, Mary and Joe moved to Hales Corners, Wis. to be close to family and, in her final years, Mary and Joe lived in sunny Las Cruces, N.M., near her daughter and son-in-law where she passed peacefully at home. Mary was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy (Ron) Frary; brothers, Donald, Richard, and Robert; sister-in-law Norma (Frank) Bahowick; and, her parents. She is survived by her loving husband, Joseph; children Paul (Michelle) Micka and Sara (Salvatore) Patricolo; sister, Eleanor Bergmann; sister-in-law, Nancy (Garner) Oswald; and grandsons, Jonathan and Matthew Micka. She is also survived by nieces, Julie Gibson, Amy (Alan Arber) Mutranowski, Constance (Rob) Urbanek, Theresa (Tim) Hoth, Jennifer (George) McCary, Elizabeth (Kevin) Barwick, Molly (Karl) Fekete, Kristine (Mike) Trapp; and nephew, Christopher (Alison Hintz) Eiche. Mary was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Darlington, and St. John the Evangelist Parish, Greenfield, Wis. She donated her time and resources to many wonderful causes, including: Holy Rosary Catholic School, St. Vincent de Paul Meal Program, and The Humane Society. She never met an animal in need that she didn't try to rescue and made her dogs Jimmy, Happy, Cookie, and Honey treasured members of the family. Gardening was always a passion and she was eager to share the bounty with friends and neighbors. She will be remembered for her elegance, humor, and wit as well as her charitable spirit at home and within the community. No funeral or memorial service is immediately planned. The family will notify loved ones in the future when a service is scheduled.

Chris Kiel Mary will always be a precious memory. Mary was thoughtful, gentile, smart and the perfect partner to Joe. Mary would sometimes pop in during my adoration hour at St. John’s parish; we would have a brief talk. My condolence to the Micka family who so wonderfully cared for Joe and Mary.
