Lois Ubersox

Lois L. Ubersox, age 98 of Gratiot, WI passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Ennoble Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dubuque, IA. She was born January 14, 1925 in Shullsburg, WI the daughter of Robert and Berniece (Travis) Longhorn. Lois grew up in Shullsburg where she graduated from Shullsburg High School. Following high school, Lois attended Dubuque Business School. In 1947, she was united in marriage to Martin "Dutch" Larson. They began farming together in rural Darlington until later moving to Shullsburg where they farmed until they bought the home farm in Gratiot in 1960 where they raised their family. In 1970, Dutch passed away unexpectedly and Lois was left to raise the children and farm on her own - and that is exactly what she did gracefully and with great determination. In 1974, Lois married Fred "Fritz" Ubersox and farmed together for many years. Over the years Lois wore many "hats" taking on the role of baker, and farmer and most importantly a loving wife, mom, and grandma. Lois is survived by her children: Barb (Frank Unterholzner) Bonney of Blanchardville, WI, Jim (Lori) Larson of Mount Horeb, WI, and Gordon Larson of Gratiot; her stepchildren: Jim Ubersox of Shullsburg, Rick Ubersox of rural Darlington, and Gail (Kenny) Wilson of Lancaster, WI; two daughters-in-law: Nikki Larson of Gratiot and Sherry Ubersox of Shullsburg; one son-in-law: Bruce Carlson; 31 grandchildren; many great and great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands Martin "Dutch" Larson and Fred "Fritz" Ubersox; her children: Carol Larson, Charles "Charlie" Larson, Audrey Larson, and Sharon Carlson; a step-son: Hal Ubersox; her only sister: Helen King; a grandson: Matthew Bonney; and one daughter-in-law: Alice Ubersox. Lois was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Darlington. Her family was always the most important part of her life and she cherished the time she spent with all of them. She was proud to bowl for Ken's Tap where they bowled at the National Bowling Tournament. In her free time, Lois enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and canning. She also liked to travel and drive around the countryside. Lois was always the Matriarch of the family and made it a point to keep everyone in line. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church in Darlington with Rev. Nick McElrath officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery. A visitation will be held Monday, March 13, 2023 from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church and on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at First Baptist Church.
