Edith Vickers

Edith M. Vickers, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2023, in Platteville, Wisconsin, at the age of 93. Born on December 1, 1929, in Cuba City, Wisconsin, the daughter of John and Margaret (Timmerman) Loeffelholz. Edith was a kind, thoughtful, and selfless woman who dedicated her life to her family and community. Edith attended Benton High School in Benton, Wisconsin, where she excelled in her studies and made lifelong friends. After completing her education, Edith was united in marriage to Charles L. Vickers on October 9, 1948, in Missouri. Together, they moved to a farm in New Diggings, Wisconsin, where they raised their five children and created countless cherished memories. Edith is survived by her children: Linda (Harold) Casper of Mukwonago, Wisconsin, Carla (Ray) Hermanson of Darlington, Wisconsin, Fanny (Ron) Ingwell of Darlington, Ellen (Bob) Boatman of rural Darlington, and Charles (Sara) Vickers of Lake of the Hills, Illinois. She was a proud grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. Edith is also survived by her brother, Kenneth (JoAnn) Loeffelholz of Dubuque, Iowa, and sisters: Mary Ann (Ed) Welsh of Janesville, Wisconsin, and Dorothy Kremer of Cascade, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles in 1994, and two sisters: Melaine Runde and Janet McCabe. After the passing of her beloved husband Charles, Edith moved to Darlington where she became an active member of the community. She was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star, a respected and dedicated organization that seeks to promote charity, truth, and loving kindness. Edith's commitment to these values was evident in her everyday life, as she consistently put the needs of others before her own. Edith had a passion for watching television, playing cards - especially Euchre - and cheering on her children and grandchildren at their school events. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching baseball, particularly the Chicago Cubs, although she also liked attending Milwaukee Brewer games. The Green Bay Packers were her favorite football team, and she never missed a chance to support them. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at New Diggings Primitive Methodist Church in New Diggings, WI with Rev. Bill Vasey officiating. Burial will be in Shawnee Cemetery in rural New Diggings. A visitation will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023, from 9:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at New Diggings Primitive Methodist Church.
