Obituary

Donald N. "Don" Meyer, age 88 of Argyle, WI passed away peacefully on June 3, 2023, at St. Mary's Care Center in Madison, WI. He was born August 9, 1934, in Darlington, WI, the son of John and Eugenia (Jenson) Meyer. A proud graduate of Argyle High School in 1953, Don went on to serve in the United States Army from 1954, where he spent 18 months in Panama before being honorably discharged in 1956. After his service, Don returned to Wisconsin and lived and farmed in the Blanchardville area until 1983. It was during this time that he discovered his passion for thoroughbred horses, which would become a significant part of his life. In 1983, Don moved to Newell, WV, where he trained thoroughbred horses for 25 years, splitting his time between Blanchardville and West Virginia. His love for horses extended beyond his work, as he belonged to a rope pulling team in Blanchardville for several years and always enjoyed watching horse racing. Don's adventurous spirit led him to return to Wisconsin in 2003, where he lived in Woodford, WI, until 2007 when he moved to Argyle. Throughout his life, Don was known for his handy and selfless nature, practical jokes and always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Don is survived by his children, Jeff (Kathy) Meyer, Rhonda Meyer, Debbie Meyer, Joni (Kent) Larson, Jerry (Julie) Meyer, and Nicole (Sean) Anderson. He was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and a great-grandfather to several great-grandchildren. Don is also survived by one brother: John David Meyer and one sister: Connie Schramm as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Jackie Whitmer and Diane Moen. Don enjoyed playing a good game of Euchre, long trail rides with the Blackhawk Saddle Club, pulling rope with the Blanchardville Sod Busters, and pulling elaborate pranks on his buddies but above all he cherished the time he spent with his family. The memories Don created with his family will be cherished forever, as his adventurous, handy, and selfless nature left a lasting impact on all who knew him. His legacy will live on through the love and lessons he shared with his family and friends. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at Cornerstone Lutheran Church in Argyle with Rev. Dave Olson officiating. The burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. A visitation will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2023, from 1:00 P.M. until 1:45 P.M. at Cornerstone Lutheran Church. The Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle is serving the family. Nicki, Rhonda, & Family, I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. Don was quite the character! He was always very protective (and flirtatious) with us nurses. I even got a few marriage proposals! He will be remembered for his big personality and loving nature. Bailey Dix, RN St. Mary’s Care Center
