Shirley Gensler

Shirley V. Gensler, age 78 of rural Shullsburg, WI passed away Sunday, June 11, 2023, at UnityPoint Health - Finley Hospital in Dubuque, IA. She was born November 10, 1944, in Shullsburg the daughter of George and Clara (Weiskircher) Scott. Shirley grew up in Shullsburg and graduated from Shullsburg High School. She married the love of her life, Albert Gensler, on April 22, 1967, at Centenary United Methodist Church in Shullsburg. Together, they raised their family in the same town, where she lived her entire life. Shirley was a devoted mother and grandmother who took great pride in her family. She is survived by her children, Jeff (April) Gensler of St. Louis, MO, Terry (Brittany) Gensler of rural Shullsburg, and Julie (Edward) Peters of Apple River, IL grandchildren, Faith, Hope, Mylie, Dan, and Rachael, brought her immense joy, as did her great-grandchild, London. She is also survived by her brother, Raymond (Susie) Scott of Dubuque, one sister, Janice Welp of East Dubuque, IL, a sister-in-law, Joanne (John) Weiskircher of Shullsburg, and one brother-in-law, Tom Pedley of Shullsburg, as well as many nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Albert, her sisters, Deloris (Delvon) Tregloan, Betty (Jerry) Morrissey, Joyce (Carl) Pahnke, and Kathleen (Charlie) Symons; one brother, Elmer (Charlene) Scott; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas Gensler, Teddy Gensler, Forrest Gensler, Arden Gensler, Marie Kieler, Alice Heller, Tom Welp, Mary Alice Pedley and Beverly Schardt. Throughout her life, Shirley was an active member of the Centenary United Methodist Church and contributed her time and talents to the Fellowship group, helping with various events. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and served as the township clerk for Shullsburg Township for many years. In her free time, Shirley enjoyed baking and cooking, often sharing her delicious creations with friends and family. She loved gathering with her friends for coffee and conversation, swapping stories and laughter. Shirley also enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino, trying her luck and having a good time. She had a special place in her heart for her dogs, Bentley and Cricket, who brought her endless joy and companionship. Above all, Shirley's family meant everything to her. She was a constant source of love, support, and encouragement, and she always made sure they knew how proud she was of their achievements. Her gentle presence and selfless nature will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 15, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. at Centenary United Methodist Church (226 W. Church St., Shullsburg) with Rev. Maria Kim officiating. A visitation will be held Thursday, June 15, 2023, from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services at the church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Shullsburg at a later date.
