John Leu

John "Jack" F. Leu, age 86 of Darlington, WI passed away peacefully at the Lafayette Manor in Darlington on Tuesday, June 27, 2023. He was born on February 13, 1937, the son of Otto "Sport" and Winifred "Winnie" (Kaster) Leu. Jack lived in the Darlington area his entire life and graduated from Darlington High School in 1957. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1958. He served with the 51st Infantry in Germany, receiving the Good Conduct Medal, before his honorable discharge in 1960. Jack farmed for many years in Lafayette County. After farming he worked for Darlington Dairy Supply, Shakeproof Industries, Nyff's Clothing, G Nyffy's Bar, and the Darlington Country Club. Over the years Jack supported his community being an active member of the Jaycees, Lions Club, and volunteering his time working with the local 4H club and coaching softball when his children were young. His hobbies included softball, bowling, golf, pitching horseshoes, gardening, bird watching, playing cards, and sharing laughs with family and friends. Jack is survived by his children: Joy (Dick) Ames of Mineral Point, Gay (Tom) Fitzsimons of Darlington, April (Jim) Conner of Linden, Jason (Cari) Leu of Birchwood, and David (Jessica) Leu of Johnson City, TN; 10 grandchildren: Tannler, Elise, Tommy, Amy, Anna, Colin, Kayla, Ashlyn, Levi and Delaney as well as eight great-grandchildren with three more on the way; his brother Joe Leu of Argyle; his sister Nancy (Sylvan) Dammen of Argyle; and five step-children Tom Nyffenegger, Teresa Horsley, Tim Nyffenegger, Georgia Nyffenegger, and Ted Nyffenegger. Jack is preceded in death by his parents Sport and Winnie Leu and his wife Judith "Judy" Leu. The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Solverson and his staff for their care and support as well as the staff at Sienna Crest and the Lafayette Manor. A Celebration of Jack's life will be held Friday, August 4, 2023 from 1:30 P.M. until 3:30 P.M. at the Darlington Country Club in rural Darlington, WI where Jack enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and sharing stories and memories with his family and friends. Military rites will be accorded at 3:30 P.M. outside the Darlington Country Club by Bates-O'Brien-Howe-Wiegel-Roelli American Legion Post #214 of Darlington. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery at a later date. The Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington is assisting the family.
