Gary E. Douglas, age 78 of Darlington, WI passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Lafayette Manor in Darlington. He was born November 18, 1945, in Freeport, IL the son of Alpha E. and Hattie (Mayne) Douglas. Gary grew up in the Darlington area and graduated from Darlington High School. He lived and farmed in Darlington his entire life. Gary is survived by his children: Jody (Duke) Ruf of Fayette, WI, Tom Douglas of Belmont, WI, Tim (Kory) Douglas of Darlington, WI, Kelly Lobdell of Lena, IL, and Amanda (Chris) Alvord of Dodgeville, WI; his grandchildren: Kari (Brad) Lamont, Christen (Kristen) Ruf, Cole (Madalyn Scott) Douglas, Callie (Chris Moskal) Douglas, Chelsey Douglas, Michael Douglas, Mitchell Douglas, Meghan (Scott Wolf) Douglas, Gracie (Logan Muhlstein) Douglas, Brooke (Parker Fitzsimons) Douglas, Paige Douglas, Payton (Cole Schiffhauer) Alvord, and Kevin Alvord; and 5 great-grandchildren; a brother: Robert Douglas of Mukwonago, WI; three sisters: Doris (Ralph) Merriam of Darlington, WI, Donna Hoesly of Monroe, WI, and Patsy Steiner of Darlington, WI; sisters-in-law: Virginia Douglas and Barb Douglas both of Darlington, WI; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Richard "Dick" Douglas, Al Douglas, Harold Douglas, and Donald "Buck" Douglas; two sisters: Shirley Douglas and Darlene Douglas in infancy; sisters-in-law: Marilyn Douglas, Marge Douglas, and Pauline Douglas; and brothers-in-law: Delbert Steiner and Roger Hoesly. Gary was a member of Southwest Wisconsin Draft Horse and Driving Club, Darlington FFA Alumni, and coached 4-H Softball. He spent most of his working years on the farm and hauling milk and when he wasn't working, he loved to play Euchre and Yass with friends. He was also an avid sports fan and was always cheering on the Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers. A private family graveside service will be held at Union Grove Cemetery in Darlington at a later date. The Erickson funeral home in Darlington is serving the family. So sorry for your loss. Gary and I were both the same age so while going to family gatherings and reunions we hung out together. I especially liked milking cows with him. He was always fun to be with. I will miss him.
