Ronald White

Ronald L. "Ron" White, age 83, of Machesney Park, IL formerly of Shullsburg, WI, passed away Monday October 28, 2024. He was born August 22, 1941 in Shullsburg the son of Clinton and Beula (Webster) White. Ron grew up in Shullsburg and graduated from Shullsburg High School. At a young age, Ron worked at his parent's restaurant, White's Cafe, in Shullsburg. After graduation, Ron married Jeanette Konopa on September 26, 1959, in Warren, IL. Together, they moved to Dubuque, IA, for a brief period before settling in Rockford, IL, where they have resided since. Ron is survived by his wife Jeanette at home; his children: Neil (Carol) White of Sanford, NC, Nancy Hertenstein of Beloit, WI, Theresa (Patrick) McGuire of Sanford, NC, and Cindy Hodyniak of Rockford; his grandchildren: Katherine, Brianna, Alana, Lindsey, Caitlin, and Cory (Lexi); one great-grandson: Callum; sister-in-law; Susie White of Lees Summit, MO and brother-in-law; James Konopa of Dallas, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother: John White. Ron was an avid sports fan, with a particular love for the Chicago Bears. He also had a love for the game of softball, a game he coached with pure dedication for many years, where he not only taught the fundamentals of the sport but also the lessons of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship. A man of many hobbies, Ron found joy in life's gambles. He relished the excitement of playing the lottery, visiting the casino, and playing card games. At home, Ronald was often found surrounded by his beloved dogs or deeply engrossed in a book, always eager to absorb new stories and knowledge. His workshop was his sanctuary, a place where he could tinker to his heart's content, often emerging with a new invention or a fixed family treasure. Family moments were cherished by Ronald, especially playing jax with his children. And through all these moments, his favorite snack—a bowl of popcorn paired with a cold glass of Coke—was never far from reach. A visitation will be held Friday, November 1, 2024, from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (235 N. Judgement St., Shullsburg). A Time of Family Remembrance will follow at 2:00 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Shullsburg.
