Delores Nelson

Delores E. Nelson, age 92, of Madison, WI, formerly of Argyle, WI, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Agrace Hospice Care in Fitchburg, WI surrounded by her family. She was born February 22, 1932, in Argyle the daughter of Gilman and Elida (Rygh) Hansen. Delores grew up in Argyle and graduated from Argyle High School and then completed one year at Madison Business College. She was united in marriage to Russell D. Nelson on November 28, 1953, at East Wiota Lutheran Church. Following her marriage to Russell, they moved to Manitowoc, WI for 6 years. In 1966, they moved back to Madison where they have resided since. Delores is survived by her husband Russell; three children: Lorie (Tom) Wagner of Middleton, WI, Eric (Pamela) Nelson of Geneva, IL, and Jim (Josie) Nelson of Phoenix, AZ; her grandchildren: Kiersten (Michael) Woodburn, Andrew (Scotti Warren) Nelson, Kari Nelson, and Taylor Nelson; and one great-grandchild: Alder Nelson. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister: Darlene (Richard) Ewing. Delores was a member of Midvale Lutheran Church in Madison where she also taught Sunday School for many years. Her love for children lead her to being a teaching aid for many years at John Muir Elementary School in Madison and volunteering as a Girl Scout Leader. In her free time, Delores enjoyed baking - especially her Norwegian dishes, traveling to many national parks and overseas to Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Her family was the center of her whole world and she always made sure they knew how proud she was of them. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends. A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 3, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Midvale Lutheran Church (4329 Tokay Blvd, Madison, WI 53711) with Rev. Katie Baardseth officiating. Burial will be in East Wiota Cemetery in Wiota Township in Lafayette County, WI. A visitation will be held Thursday, October 3, 2024 from 9:45 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at Midvale Lutheran Church.
