Bruce Stephenson

Bruce A. Stephenson, age 69, of Wiota, WI, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at his home. He was born October 5, 1954, in Darlington, the son of Franklin and Margie (Moore) Stephenson. Bruce grew up in Wiota and lived in the area his entire life, graduating from Darlington High School in 1972. Bruce was united in marriage to Julie Winn on March 18, 1978, at West Wiota Lutheran Church. Together they had 3 children, who they raised on the farm, a farm that Bruce poured his heart and soul into running his entire life. Bruce is survived by his mother: Margie Stephenson of Wiota; his children: Jamie (Bill) Smith of Darlington, Ashley (Chad) Fox of South Wayne, WI, and Chad (Hailey) Stephenson of Wiota; the mother of his children: Julie (Winn) Stephenson of Monroe, WI; his grandchildren that he absolutely adored: James Ackley, Frankie Smith, Max, Jake, Lilly, and Drew Fox, Kensli Nichols, and Beckett Stephenson; his sister: Lisa Schweitzer of Platteville, WI; a niece, nephews, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Franklin; his mother-in-law: Joyce Winn-Ness; and a brother-in-law: Wayne Schweitzer. Bruce was a lifelong member of Darlington United Methodist Church in Darlington and the Lafayette County Pork Producers. His love and devotion to his family was unmatched, and he always ensured that they were his top priority. Bruce's fondness for fishing at Leech Lake, MN, was a cherished childhood tradition, one that he held dear throughout his life. He was also known for his talents on the mound in fast-pitch softball in Wiota. Many batters would agree that facing his pitches was always a challenge. Bruce was always proud of his "roots" being from Wiota, where he farmed alongside his dad, and carried on the tradition of farming with his son, Chad. He cherished his Wiota community and the friendships that were created over the years. Bruce's stoic nature made him a man of few words. He was always willing to lend a helping hand when called upon. His actions always spoke louder than words. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Darlington United Methodist Church (550 Main St. Darlington) with Rev. InSun Lee officiating. A visitation will be held Monday, September 16, 2024, from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (508 Main St., Darlington) and on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at Darlington United Methodist Church.
