John Scott

John Edward Scott of rural Gratiot, WI passed away January 25, 2024, at Azura Memory Care in Monroe, WI. He was born May 23, 1944 to Edward and Wilma (Schmidt) Scott in Mendota IL. John was a 1962 graduate of Mendota Township High School, Mendota IL. He married Elizabeth Hollars on December 20, 1972 and they moved to Wisconsin in 1978. He was a diesel technician by trade starting at Mendota Diesel, then Borg Warner of Aurora, IL and retired from Trucks Inc of Monroe, WI. Over the years John enjoyed fishing, camping, woodworking, helping his sons with Scouts, and puttering around building and fixing things. He enjoyed going out for Friday fish dinners and never turned down a good dessert. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Beth of rural Gratiot WI; daughters Carolyn (James) Gehant of Mendota and Casandra Sweeney of South Wayne, WI; sons John (Jennifer) of Stockton, IL, Jeff of Gratiot WI, Joseph and Jerry (Megan) of Browntown, WI, and James (Chaya) of Delray Beach, FL.; brothers Michael (Kay) Scott of Mendota and Edward (Andi) Scott of West Brooklyn; sisters Susan Scott of Princeton, IL and Amy (Craig) Carter of Madison WI; 24 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Edna (Smith) Miller; brothers Paul, Richard and Steven Scott; sisters Marsha Lerette and Wanda Parker and grandson Zander Sweeney. A funeral service will be held Friday, February 2, 2024 at 12:00 P.M. at Gratiot Evangelical Free Church in Gratiot with Rev. Glenn Andes officiating. Burial will be in West Wiota Cemetery. A visitation will be held Friday, February 2, 2024 from 10:30 A.M. until 11:45 A.M. at the church. The Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington is serving the family.
