Gladys Christensen

Gladys C. Brekken Christensen, age 99 of Dodgeville, WI formerly of Darlington, WI completed her final journey from this world on May 5, 2024, almost one hundred years after her arrival on May 17, 1924. She was the daughter of Oli "Andrew" and Luella (Thompson) Brekken. Her journey was full of wonderful and natural happenings including marriage to Harry Christensen in September of 1944, two children Tom and Cheryl, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. She was blessed being raised on the home farm in Stoughton with guidance from her parents, Andrew and Luella and she enjoyed growing up with six siblings on the farm and attended Lake Koshkonong Grade School and Stoughton High School. Harry and Gladys moved to Darlington in 1950 and bought Medley's Produce where they began their career in Darlington. In 1955, they started Christensen Produce where they bought and sold eggs to larger operations in the Tri-State area. As times changed, so did their business, always adapting to the times. Gladys was the bookkeeper through the many changes Christensen Produce. Gladys' life in Darlington included so many friends and activities like picnics, boat rides with family at Yellowstone Lake and on the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers, fishing trips to Canda with friends in addition to vacations with business acquaintances to warm and sunny locations. Family was her pride and joy with lots of gatherings to share and catch up with everyone. Gladys was very involved in community and church activities her whole life including Ladies Aide at Grace Lutheran Church, an honorary member of the Blue Bird Society, member of the local Garden Club along with many other activities. Her gardens at Acorn Acres were always a lovely sight to behold. Her husband Harry and her son Tom predeceased her. She is survived by her daughter: Cheryl (Sue); daughter-in-law: Stephanie; grandchildren: Stephanie (Jacob), Kier, Andrea (John), Zach (Trisha), Toffer (Hsiao Meu), Kara (Tony), Andrew (Tatum); and her great-grands: Lukas, Kendra, Colton, James, Samuel, Koll, Adderly, and Finn. A Celebration of Gladys' Life will be held Friday, May 17, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church (1302 Clay St., Darlington) with Rev. Kate Kieckhafer officiating. A visitation will be held Friday, May 17, 2024, from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services at Grace Lutheran Church. All are welcome to come and share their stories and join the family for a luncheon following the service. The Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington is serving the family.
