Obituary

Mary Ellen Magee, age 84, of Shullsburg, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026 at the Shullsburg Home. Born on February 22, 1942, to Joseph & Cecelia (Ubersox) Schwartz in Shullsburg, she was a lifelong resident of the community she dearly loved.

Mary Ellen spent many years working in the grocery industry, and volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul in Shullsburg. She took great joy in the simple pleasures of life—being outdoors, cutting grass, antiquing, and sharing a cold beer any day of the week. She was an avid Wisconsin sports fan but her true love was cheering on the Green Bay Packers. Above all, Mary cherished her family deeply and was a devoted member of St. Matthews Catholic Church, where she celebrated her marriage to Gary Magee on July 26, 1958.

Mary Ellen is survived by her three daughters, Marilyn (Richard) Griswold of Platteville, Wisconsin; Joni (Mark) Wagner of Middleton, Wisconsin; and Amy (Dexter) Jordan of Woodbridge, Virginia. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Casey and Bailey (Dan Henry)Griswold, Michael (Kaleigh Redman), Spencer, and Madelinn Wagner and Devin & Olivia Jordan, her sisters: Mavis Hull, Linda Foht, and Helene Lee, along with her brothers: Joe (Carmen) Schwartz, Bernard Schwartz, Mick Schwartz, and Gary (Teresa) Schwartz and her sister-in-law: Mary Alice Magee-Bohl.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gary, son Michael Patrick, in-laws: Harv and Charleene Magee, her sister Janet (Rich) Harker, her brother-in-law Dwight Hull, nieces and nephews: Lucas Lee, Allen & John Harker, Loretta Ingram, in infancy: Francis and Eldon Foht, and Kayla Schwartz.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew's Catholic Church (344 N Judgement St., Shullsburg) with Father Michael Chika officiating. Burial will be in St. Matthew's Cemetery in Shullsburg. Visitation will take place Monday, July 27, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home (235 N. In true Mary Ellen fashion the family asks that you wear your best green & gold for her beloved Green Bay Packers!

A special and heartfelt thank you needs to be given to her baby sister Helene Lee for her constant presence, support and care of Mary Ellen, even though mom is gone we will always have her quick wit and Swiss stubbornness as long as you are around.

The family would also like to thank the staff at the Shullsburg Home, the nurses at Agrace Hospice for their excellent and compassionate care of Mary Ellen over the past few years.

Thoughts with all of the Magee girls. I remember babysitting a few times for them. But also to the Schwartz siblings especially Mick who is a classmate. I don’t know if she worked for mom and dad at the cleaners or not. I know her sister Janet did so there was a close connection to the family. Mary Ellen always had a welcoming smile. God bless her and know she is now your angel
