Obituary

Gary James Furniss, age 75, a lifelong resident of Monroe, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at his home on July 3, 2026. He was born on November 8, 1950, in Monroe, he was the son of the late James and Vivian (Simonson) Furniss.

Gary was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and an alumnus of Lodi High School. He cherished his time serving our country and carried the discipline and dedication of his military service throughout his life. A passionate Wisconsin sports enthusiast, Gary was a supporter of the Badgers, Packers, and Brewers. He also enjoyed attending car shows and had a great love for the outdoors, spending many happy hours hiking and biking, particularly around the scenic beauty of Devil’s Lake.

Although he never married, Gary was surrounded by a close-knit circle of family who held him dear. He is survived by his sister, Nancy Hellwig of Pembroke, Georgia; his nieces Tammy (Jason McNamara) Noble, Angie (Bruce) Bailey, and Wendy (Jim) Yanke; his nephews Alan Engebretson and Mark (Sue) Noble; as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Susan Noble and brothers, twins Teddy and Terry “Bear” Furniss, as well as his parents.

Gary's warmth, dedication to family, and love of nature will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

A graveside service will be held Friday, July 10, 2026, 11:00 A.M. at East Wiota Lutheran Church in rural Wiota, WI. The Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle is serving the family. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com.
