Eunice Bergum

Eunice Mae Bergum, age 93, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2026, at the New Glarus Home in New Glarus, Wisconsin.

She was born on August 29, 1933, in Wards Grove, Illinois, she was the beloved daughter of Charles Martin Sr. and Bertha (Kant) Martin.
A graduate of Warren High School, class of 1951. She lived in Warren until her marriage to John Bergum at West Wiota Lutheran Church. Following their marriage Eunice and John raised their family in South Wayne and resided there for 74 years.  She spent her career as a machine operator in the mailing department at Swiss Colony in Monroe for 30 years.

An active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in South Wayne, Wisconsin, Eunice devoted much time to the Ladies Aid, Quilting Club and was on the Union Cemetery Board forming many friendships and contributing generously to her community.

Eunice enjoyed family vacations up North, traveling, cheering on the Badgers, Packers and Brewers and attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting events.  She loved going out to eat, spending time in her garden, caring for her flowers and decorating her home for the Holidays.  Above all Eunice treasured the time she spent with her family and the memories they made together.  She will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her family and friends.

Eunice is survived by her five loving children: Larry (Lori) Bergum of Conover, Wisconsin; Gary Bergum of Monroe, Wisconsin and Mary Bergum of Middleton, Wisconsin; Perry (Becky) Bergum of Madison, Wisconsin; Barry (Brenda Gapinski) Bergum of Evansville, Wisconsin; and Penny (Scott) Lovelace of Argyle, Wisconsin, one son-in-law: Ron Sersch of Milton, Wisconsin, 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren with two on the way, her brother Virgil (Joanne) Martin of Lena, Illinois, sister-in-law: Ruth Martin along with many nieces and nephews. Eunice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John on April 7, 2007, one daughter: Peggie Sersch, her brothers, Harold, Delbert (Viola), Charles Jr. (Marvel), Cletus (Phyllis) and twin brother, Eugene Martin and a sister, Virginia, who passed in infancy.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in South Wayne (407 East Center St., South Wayne, WI, 53587). A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in South Wayne and on Thursday September 10, 2026, from 10:00a.m. until time of service. Eunice Mae Bergum’s life was one marked by love, faith, and dedication to her family and community. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
