Obituary
Elaine Marie Smith, cherished wife, mother, sister, and devoted member of her community, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026. Born on March 22, 1965, in Monroe, Wisconsin, Elaine was the beloved daughter of John LaRoy Wells and Ruth Hannah (Kampfer) Wells.
Elaine spent her early years growing up on the family farm in rural Monroe. She attended school through the 10th grade before gladly lending her hands to the family farm work, embodying the true spirit of dedication from a young age. On her eighteenth birthday, a journey to visit her sister in California set the course for her lifelong love story. It was there that she met the love of her life, Tracy. After six months of courtship, they were united in marriage on September 10, 1983, in Fontana, California. The couple lived in California until 1984 before returning to Wisconsin to continue their work on the family farm. In 1987, they settled in the Village of Argyle, where they joyfully raised their family.
Elaine was a dedicated fry cook at Pick and Save for sixteen and a half years, known for her warm smile and tireless work ethic. Outside of work, she found pleasure and peace in painting, drawing, crafting, and puzzles. Above all else, Elaine cherished spending time with her family.
She is survived by her loving husband, Tracy Smith; her son, Brandon Smith, and his wife Natasha of Monroe; grandchildren Caydyn, Zacharia, and Asher; her sister Jeanne (Jay) Leopold; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, John Wells, in 2025.
Elaine’s legacy is one of love, artistry, devotion, and hard work. Her presence enriched the lives of her family and friends, and she will be dearly missed.
The kindness and memories shared by friends and loved ones will forever remain treasured by those she touched.
