Obituary

Anne Craig, aged 96, of Darlington, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, at Our House Assisted Living in Platteville, WI. Born on December 13, 1929, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Anne was the beloved daughter of Harry Karras and Angela (Kolovos) Karras.

Anne grew up in Sault Ste. Marie, also affectionately known as "The Soo," and graduated from Sault Ste. Marie High School. After high school, she moved to Chicago where she attended Gregg Business College and earned a degree in court stenography. While a student, Anne worked for an attorney from Sault Ste. Marie who maintained an office in Chicago. After completing her studies, she returned to her hometown and began her career with a local law firm.

While home, Anne met Richard Craig while he was stationed at Kincheloe Air Force Base in Sault Ste. Marie during the Korean Conflict. In 1952, Anne married Richard Craig at the St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Sault Ste. Marie. The couple then relocated to Darlington, Wisconsin, where they raised their family and built a life together. Anne’s dedication to her profession was exemplary; she worked for the Gil Barnard Law office and later served as the county court stenographer under Judge Joseph Collins at the Lafayette County Court Office.

Throughout her life, Anne was a devoted member of the Methodist Church and served with distinction on the Darlington Public Library board. She cherished time spent with her cats, enjoyed theater, literature, cruises, and treasured moments with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Anne is survived by her cherished children: Chris Craig of Winter Park, Colorado, Stephanie (Fritz) Hanewall of Darlington, Wisconsin, and Kim Craig of Frederick, Maryland. She was a proud grandmother to Katie Hanewall, B.J. (Chelsea) Hanewall, Wayne (Racquel) Craig, and a loving great-grandmother to Quinn and Laine.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her four older sisters, Fran, Violet, Koula, and Olga; and leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and grace.

Per Anne’s wishes, a private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Anne Craig’s life was one of steadfast service to her profession, her family, and her community. She will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. The Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington is serving the family. Online condolences can be expressed at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com
