John "Jack" Fitzsimons
November 11, 1955 - November 01, 2025
Obituary
John G. “Jack” Fitzsimons, age 69, of rural Darlington, WI, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at UW Hospital in Madison. He was born November 11, 1955, in Darlington, the son of John and Audrey (McCarville) Fitzsimons.
Jack was a lifelong resident of Darlington and took great pride in his work as a concrete contractor. He built his own business from the ground up and spent decades helping friends and neighbors across the tri-counbty area with projects big and small. He had the distinct Fitzsimons laugh, and could whistle so loud you would hear him the next town over. Jack was known for his strong work ethic, easygoing nature, and the grin that let you know he was about to say something funny.
On June 1, 1974, Jack married the love of his life, Theresa “Terri” Merrison, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington. Together they shared 51 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and family. Jack was a devoted husband, proud dad, and the best kind of grandpa— told the best stories, and made sure everyone left with a full belly and a smile.
Jack was happiest outdoors, whether it was deer hunting in the fall, cheering on the Packers and Badgers, or relaxing at home watching an old western or a good cartoon. He also had a simple sweet tooth—he loved a good Nutty Bar and never turned down a banana. Jack was also a proud Irishman and proudly told everyone about his heritage when he could. But above all, his greatest joy came from time spent with his family—his daughters, grandchildren, nephews Joe and Josh Fitzsimons, and his good friend Jack Fuchs.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Terri, at home; his daughters: Debi (Shannon Schafer) Fitzsimons, Elizabeth (Matthew) Timm, Jeni (Josh) Groom, and Tanya (Adam Fields) Fitzsimons; his grandchildren: Jordan Bennett, Zoe (Emily) Bennett-Strom, Korbin Bennett, Wyatt, Rebekah, Rayna, and Rachel Timm, Caleb, Jaclynn, Hannah, Madeline, and Josephine Groom, and Nataleigh Fields. He is also survived by his siblings: Mike (Margaret) Fitzsimons, Beth (Tom) Wilhelmson, Lynn Olson, Sue (Bob) Stietz, Debby McQuinn, Jim (Laurie) Fitzsimons, David (Laura) Fitzsimons, Lori Fitzsimons, and Dan (Stella) Fitzsimons; sister-in-law: Judy Fitzsimons; and by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Joseph Fitzsimons, and two children in infancy; two brothers: Jeff Fitzsimons and Bill Fitzsimons; his parents-in-law, Harold and Helen Merrison; brothers-in-law, Steve Olson and Steve McQuinn; his niece: Jane Schemelia, and his nephew, Ricky Stietz.
A Prayer Service will be held Friday, November 7, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church (104 E. Harriet St., Darlington) with Fr. William Vernon officiating. Burial will be held in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Truman. Visitation will be held Friday, November 7, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at the church. A luncheon will follow the burial at Jack's home (13620 Willow Springs Lane, Darlington WI 53530).
The family requests anyone who plans to attend Jack's services wear Packer, camo, or the color green attire.
