Obituary

Judith A. “Judy” Oellerich, age 83, of Lena, IL, formerly of Shullsburg, WI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Midwest Medical Center in Galena, IL.

She was born on February 4, 1942, in Hazel Green, WI, the daughter of Walter and Margaret (Monahan) Ubersox. Judy grew up in Shullsburg, where she graduated from Shullsburg High School in 1960. On June 29, 1963, she was united in marriage to Wayne Oellerich at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Shullsburg. Together, Judy and Wayne built a beautiful life farming in Scales Mound for many years before retiring to Lena. Their marriage was filled with love, hard work, and devotion to family.

Judy’s greatest joy in life was being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She poured her heart into raising her family and was always happiest when surrounded by them. She lovingly cared for her grandchildren in their younger years, treasuring every moment of babysitting and spoiling them. She also enjoyed trips to Arizona to spend time with her daughter, Deanna. Judy had a gift for making a house a home—she loved to cook, bake, garden, sew, and keep everything sparkling clean. Her flowers bloomed beautifully under her care, and her kitchen was always filled with warmth and delicious aromas.

Judy is survived by her children: Michael Oellerich of Elizabeth, IL, Curt (Lisa) Oellerich of Lena, IL, and Deanna (Michael) O’Callahan of Scottsdale, AZ; her grandchildren: Kimberly (Rich) Lawfer, Jeremy Oellerich, and Jordon (Nathan) Oellerich-Brown; one great-grandchild: Rhyleigh Lawfer; her sister: Mary Kay (Rick) Heim; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Wayne in 2019; her son Darin Oellerich in 1999; and her siblings: Jude Ubersox, Morris Ubersox, and Mickey Ubersox in infancy.

Judy’s life was rooted in faith and service. She was a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Shullsburg and proudly belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary in Lena. She will be remembered for her selflessness, her gentle heart, and the love she shared so generously with her family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at 12:00 P.M. at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church (344 N. Judgement St., Shullsburg) with Fr. William Vernon officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Scales Mound, IL. Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Monday, October 6, 2025, from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (235 N. I don’t remember the details, but I do remember your mom taking us trick or treating! It was a rainy night. The car’s backseat had seat protectors that were bubbly, we were trying to pop them. I know your mom is looking down, smiling on you all with Wayne, while catching up with the neighbors! Hugs to you all!
