Gerald Burke
July 26, 1961 - July 01, 2025
Obituary
Gerald R. “Jerry” Burke, age 63, of Holmen, WI, formerly of Darlington, WI, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Green Bay, WI. He was born on July 26, 1961, in Darlington, Jerry was the beloved son of Richard Burke and Barb (Homb) Komprood. He graduated from Darlington High School in 1979 and went on to attend Western Technical College in La Crosse, where he studied Automotive and Body Repair—skills he would use throughout his life, both professionally and personally.
Jerry spent many years on the road as a truck driver, quietly and reliably moving freight across the country with a dedication that matched his quiet strength. Though his work took him to many places, his heart remained firmly rooted in family.
A devoted father and grandfather, Jerry found joy in life’s simple pleasures—tinkering in the garage, fishing, camping, golfing, and watching NASCAR. He especially loved cheering on the Wisconsin Badgers football and hockey teams. His early years spent on the farm instilled in him a love of hands-on work and a deep appreciation for the outdoors. Of all his passions, time spent with his children and grandchildren was what he treasured most.
Jerry is survived by his father, Dick (Carol) Burke of Darlington; his step-father, Ron Komprood of Waunakee; his children: Brandon (Danielle) Burke of Sparta and Hailey (J) Herbst of West Salem; and his cherished grandchildren: Brooklyn, Lily, and Memphis Herbst, and Bristol and Brielle Burke. He is also survived by his siblings: David (Linda) Burke, Lyle (Lisa) Burke, and Debbie (Josh) Notter; as well as several nieces and nephews who will remember his quiet kindness and warm heart. He was preceded in death by his mother, Barb Komprood, and his brother, Jack Burke.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 1:30 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (508 Main St., Darlington) with Pastor Nick McElrath of First Baptist Church in Darlington officiating. A visitation will be held Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 11:00 A.M. until the time of services at Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com.
For those who prefer, a memorial fund has been established in Jerry’s name.
Jerry will be remembered as a humble, gentle man whose steady hands and generous heart touched the lives of many. His legacy of quiet love, hard work, and unwavering devotion to family will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

Memories and celebrations…. Jerry was a great friend during LaCrosse years. We had some great rides back to school on Sunday night. As he told me several times, it has been so good to keep in touch and really get to know high school friends as we get older and wiser. Rest in Prace good friend.

I think I remember working with Jerry at the old Chevy garage at the bottom of Main St. many years ago - my thoughts are with the family at this hard time - a special "hi" to Deb who I haven't seen in a long time - much love....
