Louise M. Schwartz, age 101, of Darlington, WI, passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at the Shullsburg Home in Shullsburg, WI. She was born October 12, 1923, in Mineral Point, WI, the daughter of John and Alice (Thill) Basting. Louise grew up in the Mineral Point area where she graduated from Mineral Point High School. She was united in marriage to Will M. Schwartz on October 25, 1943, in Mineral Point. Louise worked in Milwaukee, WI, and Chicago, IL, for Marshall Fields and later for Franz Jewelry Store and Franz Optical for 24 years until her retirement.
Louise is survived by her children: Barbara Lancaster and Michael (Chris) Schwartz both of Darlington; a daughter-in-law: Donna Schwartz of Darlington; her grandchildren: Ron (Kristen) Schwartz, Melanie (Mike) Dinges, Dennis Schwartz, Randy (Deb) Raymond, Dave J. (Sue) Raymond, Tim (Kimmie) Raymond, Ryan (Patty) Lancaster, Joey (Connie) Schwartz, Amy Schwartz, Jessie (Cassie) Schwartz, and Sabena (Nick Schmit) Schwartz; 38 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Will; one son: James Schwartz; a grandson: Jay Schwartz; two great-grandsons: Aaron Raymond and Riely Schwartz; a son-in-law: LeRoy Lancaster; brothers: Joe, Ted, Leo, John, Nick, Jack, and Francis Basting; and sisters: Carol Haupt, Cecila Peasly Edmunds, Mary Thomas, and Susan McMorrough.
Louise was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington, its CCW, was part of the Catholic Daughters of America, spent 13 years cooking for funeral dinners at the church, and coordinated Meals on Wheels for the church for 24 years. In her free time, Louise liked to keep busy by making silk flower bouquets, coloring, doing word searches, baking, dancing, and traveling to the casino with her family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church (104 E. Harriet St., Darlington) with Fr. Michael Chika officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery in Darlington. A visitation will be held Saturday, December 28, 2024, from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services at the church.
