Obituary
Betty J. Thompson, age 83 of Shullsburg, WI passed away Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, IA. She was born on November 10, 1931 in New Diggings, WI the daughter of Charles and Florence (Alderson) Rock. Betty graduated from New Diggings High School in 1949. She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Robert "Bob" Thompson on March 25, 1951 at Primitive Methodist Church in New Diggings. Betty grew up in New Diggings where she and Bob lived until 1989 when they moved to Shullsburg. She worked as a Nursing Assistant at Hazel Green Hospital for a number of years before working at MicroSwitch in Warren, IL as a Plant Nurse until her retirement. Betty is survived by two children: Carolyn (Harold) Ensch and Joseph (Julie) Thompson both of Shullsburg; six grandchildren: Mary Ensch, Michelle (William) Meister, Jennifer (Jason) Nelson, Justin (Maggie) Thompson, Christina Thompson, and Gerald (Krissy) Thompson; one brother: Donald Rock of Benton, WI; one sister: Dolores Hutchinson of Platteville, WI; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents ,husband: Robert Thompson on October 24, 2010; and one son: Jerry Thompson in 1994.Betty was a past member of Primitive Methodist Church in New Diggings, a 50 year member of Shullsburg Order of Eastern Star Chapter 30, and a charter member of the Southwest Chapter of Izaak Walton League in Benton. She was a talented painter and loved to paint with oils on sweatshirts and canvas. Betty enjoyed spending time outside bird watching and watching the Packers on Sundays. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at 11:30 A.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (235 N. Judgement St, Shullsburg) with Rev. David Ritchie of Waldwick Community Church officiating. Burial will be in Shawnee Cemetery in New Diggings. A visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at Erickson Funeral Home where an Eastern Star service will be held at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made payable to Shriners Hospitals for Children (Zor Shriners, 575 Zor Shrine Place, Madison WI, 53719).

I'm so sorry to hear that Betty died. I will really miss visiting her. She was always so optimistic, cheerful and thinking of everyone else before her. No matter what was going on with her, she was concerned about everyone else. She was so proud of her family!

Sorry for your loss! Betty always had a great story to tell us, and always enjoyed visiting with our children. She always giggled when I put her yellow nightgown on. She'd say, "I hate the color yellow, but it looks nice on you." She will be missed.
