Obituary
Lee Furrer, Age 90, of Darlington, Wi, passed away on February 20, 2016 in Platteville, WI. He was born on June 29, 1925 in South Wayne, WI, the son of Casper and Julia (Johnson) Furrer. Lee grew up in the Monroe, WI area where he graduated from Monroe High School in 1943. Lee served our country during WWII in the U.S. Army Infantry from 1943 until 1946. He was stationed in Normandy, Northern France and Central Europe before he was honorably discharged. Lee was united in marriage to Elaine Elizabeth Hendrickson on October 6, 1956 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington, WI. Following their marriage, they lived in Darlington where he worked as a Linesman for Lafayette Electric Coop until his retirement in 1987.Lee is survived by his children: Karen (Jerry) Wiegel of Platteville, WI, and Diane (Jim Incledon) Schaal of Milton, WI; six grandchildren: Chad (Denise) Wiegel, Lacy (Derek) Pasch, Dana (Ben) Bendorf, Brian Schaal, Matt (Jessica) Schaal, and Jake (Zell Lee) Schaal; and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Elaine in 2005; two brothers: Clifford and Lester Furrer; and one sister: Inga Jorgenson.Lee was a member of Darlington Country Club, Bates-O'Brien-Howe-Wiegel-Roelli American Legion Post #214 of Darlington and the Gratiot VFW Post #9692. Lee will always be remembered for the special love he had for his family but most notably his great grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan and loved playing golf. When Lee wasn't watching a Brewers, Badgers or Packers game, he enjoyed bowling with his wife and friends.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (508 Main Street, Darlington, WI) with Rev. Craig Simenson of Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery in Darlington where military graveside rites will be accorded by Bates-O'Brien-Howe-Wiegel-Roelli American Legion Post #214. A visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services at Erickson Funeral Home. The Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington is serving the family. Lee was a role model in many ways. His love for his family, devout patriotism, determination, gifted storytelling and robust laugh will be treasured forever. I am so sorry for your family's loss.
