Carol Mosley

Carol J. (Whitford) Mosley, age 94 of Darlington, WI passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Sienna Crest Assisted Living in Darlington. She was born November 30, 1921 in Darlington, the daughter of Lewis and Mildred (Hovey) Whitford. Carol attended Hovey Elementary School and graduated from Darlington High School in 1940. She was united in marriage to Floyd C. Mosley on February 10, 1945 at the Darlington United Methodist Church. Carol and Floyd lived and farmed in rural Darlington on the farm purchased from her parents which had been homesteaded by the Hovey family in 1848. They sold the livestock in 1970 and remained on the farm until 1983 when they sold the farm and moved into the city of Darlington. Beginning while she was still on the farm, Carol worked for more then 30 years as a cook and server in the Darlington School District Elementary and High School kitchens. An excellent cook, she was very committed and dedicated to her work, loved the children and teachers, and enjoyed her duties in the kitchen. For those many years of service she earned recognition as an "Outstanding Older Worker" - an accomplishment of which she was very proud.Carol is survived by three sons: Spencer Lee (Mary Sue) Mosley of Green Bay, WI, Harvey Stewart (Janet) Mosley of Camdenton, MO, and Merle Alan (Jodine) Mosley of Odessa, MO; nine grandchildren: Drew (Heather Thomas) Mosley and Devon Mosley, Megan (Keith Knabjian) and David Mosley, Jeremiah (Kenna) Mosley, Romelia (Matt) Quick, Amanda (Nick) Kleoppel, Annah (Jonathon) Pharr, and Selah Mosley; eleven great-grandchildren; and seven nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Floyd on May 23, 2004; two brothers and sisters-in-law: John "Jack" (Phyllis) Whitford and Russell (Jane) Whitford; and two great-grandchildren.Carol was a member of the Darlington United Methodist Church where she was actively involved in the church's Loyalty Circle and its Women's Group, was a founding member of the Happy Homemakers Club and a more than 70 year member of the Lafayette County Association for Home and Community Education (HCE). Carol was also a member of the Darlington Country Club's Ladies Golf League which included her highlight of winning a Flight Championship. She also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, visiting with family and friends, and square dancing with her husband Floyd. Carol and Floyd enjoyed traveling after leaving the farm and took several Tri-State Bus excursions, as well as searching far and near for treasures at flea markets and in antique stores. Carol was a precious friend, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all of her family and friends.A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Darlington United Methodist Church (546 Park Place, Darlington) with Rev. Angela Steinhauer officiating. A visitation will be held Saturday, May 21, 2016 from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services at the church. The Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington is serving the family.
