Alice M. Van Bogaert, age 84 of rural Darlington, WI, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at Upland Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dodgeville, WI. She was born March 2, 1932, in Crete, IL the daughter of Alphonse and Anne Marie (Korsis) Lingis. Alice grew up in Crete and moved to St. Charles, IL in 1948 where she graduated from high school as salutatorian in 1949. Following her graduation from high school, she attended the Art Institute of Chicago in Chicago, IL. Alice worked at DuKane Industries in St. Charles doing office work and creating educational film strips. In 1950, Alice met Charles H. Van Bogaert at a Catholic Youth Organization outing. Their courtship centered around Chuck's baseball games. They were engaged the following Christmas. They were united in marriage on April 7, 1951, in St. Charles. Alice and Chuck farmed in Burlington, IL until 1954. That year they moved to the Scott Farm in La Fox, IL where they farmed until 1968. In 1968, they bought the Aidickes in Belmont, WI where they were grain farmers until their retirement in 1999 when they moved to rural Darlington. Alice is survived by her children: Donna Van Bogaert of Cincinnati, OH, Kenneth (Mary) Van Bogaert of rural Darlington, Cynthia (Stephen Chalupnik) Van Bogaert of Washington D.C, Dianne (Darin Heyerdahl) Parker of Neenah, WI, Steven (Lori) Van Bogaert of Belmont, WI, and Laura (Dan) Douglas of Los Gatos, CA; 11 grandchildren: Phillip and Thomas Pierick, Bret Van Bogaert, Jennifer and Michelle Chalupnik, Max and Quinn Parker, Kyle Van Bogaert, and Charles, Katherine, and Elodie Douglas; 3 step-grandchildren: Hannah, Reece, and Holly Heyerdahl; one sister-in-law: Joanne Van Bogaert of St. Charles; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles on August 9, 2005.Alice was a member of St. Philomena's Catholic Church in Belmont and part of its Altar and Rosary Society as well as a past CCD teacher. She was a past Ambassador for the Wisconsin Soybean Association and a proud 4-H Club Leader for the La Fox Patient Pals and the Elk Grove Boosters. Alice volunteered to work at the polls during elections in Belmont for Elk Grove Township in Lafayette County. She was a self-taught seamstress and, later in life, an avid quilter. She won many awards for her sewing work. For many years, she was a clothing judge and sponsored a clothing construction trophy at the Belmont Fair. Alice was also a member of several Darlington quilting groups and Belmont Homemakers. She cherished the time spent and memories made with her family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, July 9, 2016, at 1:00 P.M. at St. Philomena's Catholic Church (338 Chestnut Street, Belmont) with Rev. James R. Leeser officiating. Burial will be in St. Philomena's Resurrection Cemetery in Belmont. A visitation will be held Saturday, July 9, 2016, from 11:00 A.M. until 12:45 P.M. at the church. The Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington is serving the family. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be used for a memorial scholarship fund. Memorials may be made out to the family of Alice and sent to the Erickson Funeral Home, 508 Park Place, Darlington, WI 53530.
