James Ayer, Jr., age 89 of Darlington, WI passed away Monday, July 25, 2016 at Lafayette Manor in Darlington, WI. He was born December 5, 1926 in New Diggings Township in Lafayette County, WI, the son of James and Edna (Feathess) Ayer. James grew up in the New Diggings Township. Following his graduation from Benton High School James began farming in the Darlington, Lamont, and Willow Springs areas for his father to which he later became partners with. In 1988, James retired from his farm but continued to help other local farmers. James is survived by three brothers: Keith (Shirley) Ayer of Noblesville, IN, Donald (Maureen) Ayer of Waukesha, WI, and Gordon (Joan) Ayer of Terra Tote, IN. He was preceded in death by his father in 1987; his mother in 1985 and two brothers: Norman and Harold Ayer.James was a member of the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows Lodge # 171. He enjoyed spending his time outdoors on the farm. James will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date in Belmont Cemetery.

Oh, I am sad to hear of Jr's passing. I always liked visiting w him at the dump in Calamine and any time I saw him. Even the last time I was at the Manor, he always asked what Jim and the boys were up to on the farm. Loved to visit w him. I wish I had made more effort to go see him 😥 He was such a nice, kind man. Laughing with the thought ,As a youngster sitting on his Knee got use to a barnyard smell or two . If he was around and you needed help or a hand Junior was your man! Saddily have not seen in several years, Will always keep ta thought ! God Bless
