Paul E. Skattum, age 94 of Monroe, WI, formerly of Argyle, WI passed away Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe. He was born August 5, 1922 in Lamont, WI, the son of Sever M. and Alice V. (Anderson) Skattum. Paul was united in marriage to Elaine M. Gilbertson on October 13, 1945, in Morganfield, KY. She preceded him in death on October 30, 1983. He lived and farmed in Argyle Township until retiring in 2004. Following his retirement Paul continued to help his son farm on the family farm until 2007. Paul is survived by his son: Nathan (Diane) Skattum of Argyle; five grandchildren: Dana (Michael) Weber of Monroe, JoLaine (Tony) Hamwey of Billerica, MA, Ryan Skattum of Mineral Point, WI, Derek (fiancé Shaina Allen) Skattum of Monroe, and Kyle Skattum and his friend Mary of rural Hollandale; six great-grandchildren: Justin (Heidi) Weber and Jared Weber; Nathanial and George Skattum, Bentley and Brynlee Skattum all of Monroe , and two sisters: Mary Lou (Bob) Dunneison of Waterloo, WI, and Marian Carlson of Loves Park, IL; and a special friend: Vanessa Skattum of Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother: Helen; one daughter: Judith Skattum; three brothers: Arthur in infancy, Vernus (Becky) Skattum and Delbert (Roberta) Skattum; one sister: Mavis (Gaylord) Hermanson; one step Brother: Sherman Ostby and one brother-in-law: Jerry Carlson.Paul was a member of Apple Grove Lutheran Church. He enjoyed the time he spent with his family creating memories that they will all cherish forever. Paul loved music, whether it was playing the accordion and guitar with his wife or listening to music as he got older, it always put a smile on his face. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends. A visitation will be held Friday, August 19, 2016 from 9:45 A.M. until 11:45 A.M. at Apple Grove Lutheran Church (14501 Apple Grove Church Road, Argyle). A funeral service will follow at 12:00 P.M. at Apple Grove Lutheran Church with Rev. Daniel L. Bohlman officiating. Burial will be in Apple Grove Lutheran Church Cemetery. The Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle is serving the family. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com. I'm thinking of you in your time of sorrow. In my childhood I was friends with Sharon Hermanson (later Mrs. Tommy Olson) and spent an afternoon one day on Paul + Elaine's farm with Sharon and Judy. There is where I learned to ride a bike, what a great memory! Paul was always a happy guy and I liked seeing him over the years. Sending thoughts of sympathy.

While growing up on the farm, my dad and Paul used to farm together so I had the privilege of getting to know Paul and Elaine well and boy, what fun we all had. I have so many fond memories of Paul; his gentle and kind ways and that wonderful laugh that never left him. I will forever cherish those good times. I can only imagine the wonderful reunion they are all having right now!

My Dad and Mom, Delbert and Roberta ("Bobby") Skattum raised their family in Rockford, IL. Dad was a bricklayer, but I don't think the "farm" ever really left him. As kids, we had trips to Argyle often, and Dad always visited his brother Paul on the farm for a few hours. My brother Randy and I loved to ride along; we got to see and do things we never would have known - especially the milking and pig stories. Uncle Paul was a good man with a great heart. He was truly one of the kindest men I've ever known. I remember a few years ago before Dad passed, Uncle Paul came down for a short stay and watching them together I recalled how close they were with each other and their brother, Vernus. It's a good memory to have ... so much better to think of where they are today. God bless you, Uncle Paul.
