Thomas J. Garvey, age 29 of Darlington, WI passed away Monday, November 7, 2016 at University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, WI with family by his side. Tom was born on September 23, 1987 in Darlington the son of Sue (Metz) Garvey and Jim Garvey. He graduated from Darlington High School as a member of the class of 2007 and later went on to receive his degree as an Automotive Technician from Southwest Technical College in Fennimore, WI. Tom is survived by his parents Sue and Jim of Darlington; one brother: Steve Garvey and his niece Tatum Garvey of Darlington; His grandfather: Glenn (Betty McGranahan) Garvey; aunts: Marcia (Rick) Crooks, Chris (Buck) Virtue, and Lori (Phil Friend) Garvey; uncle: Chuck Garvey; cousins: Nicky Metz, Heather (Aaron) Deckert, Coralyn and Rowan Deckert, Amber Hodgson, April, Alix and AJ Brandt, Ryan (Jordan) Mosley, Alissa (Joe) Burbach, and Grant (McKayla McVay) Garvey; and his special friend: Ashley Gille. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Rauley and Nancy Metz; and paternal grandmother: Mary Ellen Garvey. Tom fought his cancer ferociously for 32 months and was able to amaze a few of his doctors that told him and his family he would be lucky to survive 3 months after his diagnosis. He was a great example of a brave young man that taught each of us, whether it be family members, friends, or the dedicated doctors that worked with him, what pure determination can do when a person has such a strong desire to live. In the end cancer took Tom's life, but he was the real winner; he lived, laughed, loved harder, and shared some neat experiences with his family and friends that will stay with them forever. With Tom in heaven, the chances of the Dallas Cowboys reaching the Super Bowl have been forever enhanced and Tom will have the best seat in the house to cheer them on. Our lives have been forever enriched for the time God has allowed us to enjoy, share, and love you here on Earth. Enjoy the game Tom!A public visitation will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2016 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (508 Main Street, Darlington). Per Tom's request a private family funeral service will be held with Reverend Angela Steinhauer officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com. For those who prefer, a memorial fund has been established in Tom's name.

Tom fought his cancer for 32 months and was able to amaze a few of his doctors that told him and his family he would be lucky to get 6 more months after he learned he had cancer. Great example of a brave young man that can teach us what the desire to live and determination can do, along with a team of doctors and family that wouldn't give up. In the end cancer took his life, but Tom won, because we all had more time to live, laugh, share some neat experiences with him, and show, and tell him how much we loved him. And now with Tom in Heaven we all know the Dallas Cowboys have a great shot in winning the Super Bowl, and Tom will have the best seat in the house (Heaven) to cheer them on. Enjoy the game Tom! Our lives have all been enriched for the time God allowed us to enjoy and love Tom here on Earth with us.

I read about Tom's untimely death after just 29 short years of precious life, I wanted to express my feelings of sympathy for the Garvey family. When our loved ones fall asleep in death, the pain and grief seems unbearable. Our loving God Jehovah (Psalm 83:18) understands how we feel and he comforts us by means of his word the Bible. Psalm 34: 18 tells us: "Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those who are crushed in spirit." Jehovah invites you to throw all your burdens on him and he will sustain you in your time of grief. Most of us have seen this enemy death claim the lives of people dear to us. But Jehovah God promises to destroy this enemy, death, once and for all. Rev. 21: 4; tells us: "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore." I know it will do the same for you. God's kingdom that Jesus taught us to pray for at Matt. 6: 9, 10 will bring about these wonderful promises including the resurrection.
