Doris M. Keen, age 87 of Mineral Point, WI formerly of Darlington, WI passed away Monday, November 14, 2016 at Sienna Crest Assisted Living in Mineral Point. She was born May 26, 1929 in Freeport, IL the daughter of Harry and Louise (Datt) Laymann. Doris graduated from Freeport High School in 1947. She was united in marriage to Kenneth J. Keen on June 11, 1959 in Juda, WI. Doris lived in Freeport until her marriage to Ken when they moved to rural Juda to farm. In 1976 they moved to Darlington. Doris worked as the dietary manager for Lafayette Manor Nursing Home in Darlington until her retirement in 1997. Doris is survived by one son: Thomas J. Keen of rural Argyle, WI; three daughters: Sandy Kay (Lonnie) Hatcher of Evans, GA, Debra Sue (Roger) Timmerman of Dickeyville, WI, and Donna Louise (Brian) Bredeson of Darlington; five grandchildren: Kristina (Matt Woodward) Kieffer, Michelle (Justin) Monson, Ryan (Jordan) Mosley, Alissa (Joe) Burbach, and Grant (Makayla McVay) Garvey; three step-grandchildren: Cody Bredeson, Troy (Shannon) Timmerman, and Rob (Rhonda) Timmerman; nine great-grandchildren; two nieces: Diana Barone of Phoenix, AZ and Carolyn Reid of Scottsdale, AZ and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ken on October 29, 1988; and five sisters: Margaret Marian and Bernice Laymann , Alice Bischof, and Evelyn Price. Doris was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Darlington and its Women of the ELCA. She loved to challenge her mind by doing puzzles of all sorts. Doris cherished the time she spent with her family and the memories they created that will forever stay in their hearts. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends. A funeral service will be held Friday, November 18, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church (1302 Clay Street, Darlington) with Rev. Craig Simenson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Juda, WI. A visitation will be held Friday, November 18, 2016 from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services at the church. The Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington is serving the family. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com. For those who prefer, a memorial fund has been established in Doris's name. The family would like to thank the staff at Sienna Crest and St. Croix Hospice for their loving care.

My Deepest Sympathy. It is so difficult to lose your Mother and Friend. It was devastating for me. But what really helped me was sharing precious memories with family and friends, that made her feel so close to me. I leaned on God when I was alone, and really needed someone to talk to, God was always there. I remembered a Bible verse that comforted me, Isaiah 41:10, it said: " Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be anxious, for I am your God. I will fortify you, yes, I will help you, I will really hold on to you with my right hand of righteousness." How comforting I thought, knowing that God really cared for me, that God was promising me that he would be there for me, that he would strengthen me, help me, and hold on to me with his right hand, carry me until I could stand on my own. That really, really helped me. I sincerely hope you knowing all of these wonderful promises of God really bring you comfort, and they give you the strength and courage you need to make it through this very difficult time.
