Shirley Acherman

Shirley A. Acherman, age 73 of Calamine, WI passed away Monday, December 5, 2016 at her home. She was born January 10, 1943 in Willow Springs Township in Lafayette County, WI the daughter of Robert and Helen (Conroy) Schilling. Shirley grew up in Willow Springs Township and graduated from Darlington High School in 1960. On August 4, 1962 Shirley married James P. Acherman at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Calamine. Following their marriage, they lived in Darlington and then Belmont, WI for a number of years. In 1970, she and James moved to Calamine where they have resided since. Shirley worked as a social worker for Lafayette County Human Services for over 20 years but was most proud of her career as a wife, mother and grandmother.Shirley is survived by her husband James at home: four daughters: Tammy (Jeff) Zeller of Yokosuka, Japan; Theresa Acherman of Milwaukee, WI; Jamie (Heath) Hartwig and Jessie (Dan) Belanger both of Darlington; nine grandchildren: Julie and Emily Zeller; James, Carson, Catie, and Grady Hartwig; DJ, Matthew, and Payton Belanger; five siblings: Bonnie (Tom) Nethery of Sussex, WI; Barb (Jerry) Quirk of Darlington; John (Susie) Schilling of rural Darlington; Chris (special friend Mike Schwartz) Sauer of Oregon, WI; and Bill (Barb) Schilling of rural Darlington; three brothers-in-law: Frank (Allene) Acherman of Truman, WI; John (Diane) Acherman of Waukesha, WI; and Mike (Mary Jo) Acherman of Mineral Point, WI; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; father and mother-in-law: Frank and Catherine Acherman; and one sister: Jane Ubersox.Shirley was a member of St Michael's Catholic Church in Calamine, a branch of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Twilight Homemakers, and a past board member of Lafayette County Historical Society. She loved playing cards, Wii, and exercising at the Wellness Center in Darlington. Shirley cherished the time spent with her family especially traveling with her children and grandchildren creating memories that will stay with them forever. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, December 9, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. where "Family Remembrances" will be shared at 10:45 A.M. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Calamine (17596 Ridge Street, Mineral Point) with Rev. John Bosco Pudhota officiating. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery. A visitation will be held Thursday, December 8, 2016 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (508 Main Street, Darlington) with a rosary being prayed at 4:00 P.M. A visitation will also be held Friday from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at the church.
