Obituary
Ronald Norman Lovaas passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, June 5th, 2017 at the age of 76. He was born on June 11, 1940 in Beloit, WI, the son of Marcella and Norman Lovaas. Ron graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in 1957 and served in the Navy from 1958 to 1962. He was an Electronics Technician aboard the USS Ranger. After his discharge, he attended college under the GI bill, graduating from UW-Platteville. While attending college, he married Jeanette Newhausen, mother of three from a previous marriage, and in 1969 had twins, Kenny and Kari. He met his current wife, Dee, while living in Mt. Horeb, WI and they married on December 31, 1990. He welcomed a new step-daughter, Linda, into his life. Ron and Dee had many common interests, including traveling, photography, reading and a love of nature. He had a long successful career operating his own insurance agency, and upon retiring, sold the agency to his stepdaughter, Linda, and grandson, James. Ron and Dee then built their dream home in the countryside of New Glarus where Ron took on the family's genealogy as a hobby which he shared at many family gatherings. He is survived by his mother: Marcie; wife: Dee; son: Kenny (Carmen) Lovaas; daughter: Kari (Tony) Nichols; step-son: Kevin Gayton; step-daughter: Linda Kraus; brother: Richard (Cathy) Lovaas; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father: Norman Lovaas; step-son: David Gayton; and step-daughter: Sherry Dunlavy.A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (801 Milwaukee Street, Argyle) with Rev. Jennifer Kuhnert of Adams Lutheran Church officiating. A visitation will be held Saturday, June 10, 2017 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services at the funeral home. A luncheon will follow at Dee's home. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com. For those who prefer, a memorial fund has been established in Ron's name. My dad was a very talented, creative, artistic person. Unfortunatly the artistic gene wasn't passed down to me. My daughter ended up with it, I guess it skipped me. He had extraordinary vision and a natural ability to create amazing works of art. His creations of Stained glass, paintings, drawings, macrame and photography were amazing! His passion for space, Sci-Fi and understanding the universe opened my mind to all the possibilities. I looked up to him in many ways. Im blessed that my son and daughter are intelligent, creative, strong and have incredible vision just like him. They are here because of him. Gratitude is to small of a word.
