Harvey Frye

Rev. Harvey N. Frye, age 85 of Dubuque, IA passed away Monday, September 4, 2017 at Luther Manor in Dubuque. He was born May 27, 1932 in Madison, WI the son of James and Hazel (Walton) Frye. Harvey graduated from Hollandale High, Luther College, Decorah, IA and received his Masters of Divinity from Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN. He was united in marriage to Anna M. Swenson on December 22, 1956 at the Old York Church, Blanchardville, WI. Together they followed God's call to serve two congregations in Montana and six in Wisconsin from 1962 until his retirement in 1992.He served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1953 where he found his calling into the ministry. Harvey was an extremely proud member of the Cuba City Lions Club and had been a Lion for 48 years. He was a Past District Governor and recipient of the Melvin Jones and Birch-Sturm Fellowship Awards. Harvey is survived by his children: Jane (Bruce) Barnes of Sun Prairie, WI and their children Scott and Kimberly, Loren (Sharon) Frye of New Berlin, WI, and Julie (John) Busch of Bellevue, IA and their children Ben and Brianna; one brother: Kenneth Frye of Missoula, MT; one sister: Joyce Schumann of Waunakee, WI; three foster siblings: Sylvia Smith of Phoenix, AZ, Charles (Jean) Olson of Hollandale, WI, and Lore (Earl) Roethke of Minneapolis, MN; and a sister-in-law, Edna Slayback of Richland Center, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents; his foster parents David and Evelyn Olson; his wife Anna on December 29, 1998; three brothers: Arthur, Leo, and Raymond Frye; one sister: Patricia Larson; three brothers-in-law, and two sisters-in-law.A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 11:30 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church (1302 Clay Street, Darlington) where he last served. Military rites will be accorded at the church after the funeral by Bates-O'Brien-Howe-Wiegel-Roelli American Legion Post #214 of Darlington. Burial will be in the Old York Cemetery in rural Blanchardville. A visitation will be held Saturday, September 9, 2017 from 9:00 A.M. until 11:15 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church. The Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington is serving the family.
