JoAnn M. Myers, age 83, of Monroe, WI, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at Monroe Hospice Home in Monroe. She was born February 26, 1934, in Waukegan, IL, the daughter of Richard and Isabel (Burnell) Mercer. JoAnn graduated from Senn High School in Chicago and later received her degree in Special Education from Morton Junior College in Cicero, IL. She was united in marriage to Lewis Myers in 1986 in Dodgeville, WI. JoAnn worked at Lands' End in Dodgeville for 21 years, retiring from Customer Service Support in the Financial Service Department. JoAnn is survived by her two daughters: Susan (Jim) Coffer of Nolensville, TN, and Patricia (Carl) James of Argyle, WI; stepchildren Jerry (Jolynn) Myers of Mt. Horeb, WI, and Jeff (Christine) Myers of Twin Lakes, WI; her grandchildren: Garrett Coffer, Sadie (Chris) Harris, Abi Coffer, Katy Coffer, Dani (Dana) Maricque, Will (Meghan) James, Chris James, Cody James, Hannah James, and Stephanie James; step-grandchildren: Joel (Brooke) Myers, Eric (Jaimie) Myers, and Kelsey Myers; seven great grandchildren and two sisters: Jean Holmes of Little Rock, AR, and Margaret Dernbach of Elgin, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lewis; one sister: Richardine Foster; and one great-grandson: Brian Harris in infancy. JoAnn was a member of the United Methodist Church in both Dodgeville and Monroe and was involved in many church activities throughout her life, including forming a Kitchen Band. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her children remember her being active in all of their activities. Her grandchildren fondly remember her carrying a deck of cards in her purse so she could play with them any chance they got; making Yum Yum, hot chocolate, and fudge; French braiding their hair; listening to old time radio shows at night by candlelight; and taking them all on her version of "Taste of Monroe" where they would eat at as many places in Monroe as possible. JoAnn loved to travel throughout the United States and around the world. She was an avid sports fan and cheered on the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, and Chicago Cubs. JoAnn will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.A memorial service will be held at a later date at Miller Funeral Home in Dundee, IL (millerfuneralhomedundee.com). Please check their website for further details. Burial will be in Dundee Township East Cemetery. The Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle is serving the family locally. Our sympathies to the family. We met JoAnn and Lew at church in Dodgeville and they lived up the road from us. JoAnn was a firecracker, involved and busy but always had time for a good chat. Unlike most back pew people, they would navigate to the font on the south side on Sunday mornings. I'm not sure how you single out a lifetime of great memories. Being the long distance Nephew I was only able to enjoy our time together during family vacations and living close by in the teen years. Aunt Jo always made everyone feel as if they were the most important part of her day, even in a crowded room of many. She taught us all that having fun was a main ingredient, but being responsible, kind and loving was also a mix that could not be overlooked. I loved every moment together and only wish there were more but I am so lucky to have experienced the ones I had. When I would end my phone calls I would say"love you Aunt Jo" and she would always follow up with"love you more", that was just who she was. Good bless you, you will be greatly missed.

Some of my favorite memories of Grandma was when she'd come down to Tennessee to visit for a week or so. We'd explore Nashville, eat home-made brownies and fudge on our nature hikes, and of course play a ton of games. She seemed to make the trips about us grandchildren, which I now recognize and appreciate as an adult. With Grandma, we always had a lot of fun, food, and laughs.

We love you, Grandma! You were so active in our lives. I remember being excited for you and Papa Lew to come down to Tennessee - your visits always meant playing cards all day, going on hikes and to museums, eating a lot of homemade brownies, and staying up late to listen to mysteries from the radio. We will miss you a lot. You were always there to keep the score in card games (and somehow always win...), be an email pen-pal, provide the best gaming snacks, and encourage us through all of our lives growing up. You often signed your emails to me, "Please give my love to Gracie and to Chris - and keep some for yourself." I'll be keeping your love with me forever!
